The way the NFL is set up, you force Anderson to stay if you want. Give him the highest tender as a RFA, and that would mean a 1st + 3rd as compensation if anybody else signs him. I don't have the figure for how much that would cost, but I am sure it is relatively cheap. Then the following year he will become an UFA, and you can always franchise tag him. That will cost you a lot, but it could be well worth it. Let's say he takes the Browns deep into the playoffs this year. You almost have to slam the tag on him to keep him around. You can just tag him every year until you get a contract worked out, or until it's time to move on.

I don't blame Anderson and his agent for their demands. He totaled 32 tds and is in Hawaii right now. Compare that to Romo...or even Matt Schaub's deals and it's quite apparent that maybe the Browns offer is just for show.

It's tough to gauge what the Browns are going to do at this point - what if they are purposely lowballing Anderson so it seems like Anderson wants out or is portrayed as one of those "greedy athletes?" I doubt they'll be able to sign him to only a three or four-year deal, because he'd be gone before that happened. I think Anderson senses that everyone wants Brady Quinn to be the man, and he doesn't want to deal with the competition. It's unfortunate.
