The Browns definitely would have been a challenge for Pioli, and at the very least, going after him shows Lerner has some drive to make this team good. I wonder what "extreme" demands Scott Pioli had that made him pretty much an afterthought. I also wonder why the team hasn't at least contacted Mike Shanahan, even before his vacation...

Since Pioli has had so much fortune with the pats he will probably want a little challenge.

I say good for Randy Lerner for pushing his chips in and demanding either a call or a fold from Pioli. Lerner wants a good football guy in charge of the coaching search, and Pioli is his #1 guy with Cowher out of the picture.

Now, Pioli could very easily say no today...and I'm sure Lerner would allow him to say yes later this week or next. But still, if you know he is your #1 guy, put the onus on him to call your bluff, especially if you know you will match or exceed whatever money anyone else can offer.

And while the Browns job might not look great on the surface for Pioli, it is the place where he began his career, the team has a great fan base and a supportive (though reclusive) owner, he would have final say on all football decisions, and there is more talent in Cleveland than in KC...in my opinion.

I share Lerner's fervor and want Pioli in Cleveland. I hope he says yes. Even better if he says yes today.
