San Diego Chargers Release LaDainian Tomlinson (also, Get that Scenario Out of Your Head)
The San Diego Chargers have released 30-year-old LaDainian Tomlinson, ending an amazing nine-year career there that made him one of the NFL’s greatest running backs. Despite his recent lack of productivity, there is still something weird about seeing a player as great as Tomlinson leave a team not under his own accord. That being said, get that thought out of your head right now. The last thing the Browns need is a another aging running back to take time away from younger players with some potential.
Jamal Lewis Released by Browns
The Cleveland Browns have cut veteran running back Jamal Lewis from the roster. Lewis, who announced mid-season that he would retire after the campaign, is not ruling out playing again. According to his agent, Jamal does not want to end his career on an injury and is most interested in joining the ranks of a contender in the upcoming season. The release of Lewis by the Browns is no surprise. He was highly critical of Mangini throughout the season. He did not play the last several games because of post-concussion symptoms (in fact, even after the season ended, Lewis claimed [...]
QB Jimmy Clausen Will Not Take Part in Combine Drills
Due to the recovery of surgery on his right toe, former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen will not be competing in the drills at theupcoming NFL Combine. He will be attending the Combine though, hoping to impress NFL teams with his smarts rather than just his physical attributes. The 6-3, 223-pound junior is considered one of the best quarterback prospects in the draft, which is a need the Browns are most certainly going to need to address this offseason. Call it a hunch – or the fact that I’ve just never liked Clausen – but I don’t have high hopes [...]
The Browns are the Best at Something – Special Teams!
When thinking about how atrocious the Browns really were both offensively and defensively last season, it’s quite the miracle that they managed to win five games. We can pretty much thank the special teams for a lot of the team’s success this past season, starting with the best kick returner in the game in Josh Cribbs. The special teams rankings over at The Dallas Morning News also seem to agree with the importance of this team’s special teams unit, as it has ranked the Browns the best in the league. The teams are ranked in 22 different categories and are [...]
Talks Over Josh Cribbs’ New Contract Going Well
After a period of much overreacting on the behalf of those who represent Joshua Cribbs, the talks regarding a new contract for the Pro Bowler have begun to improve. While there is no timetable for a contract to be done, there was a thought that it could be finished by the NFL Combine on February 24th. With the way tensions have finally managed to calm down, it is difficult to think that a new deal will not be reached soon. The agent for Cribbs – J.R. Rickert – has been working with general manager Tom Heckert and new vice president [...]
Browns Interested in Donovan McNabb
The rumors of Donovan McNabb leaving the Philadelphia Eagles have seemingly gone on for years. This time, however, it’s an actual possibility and the Browns are one of the teams interested in utilizing his services. Apparently, the Browns, Bills, and Broncos are the three teams that have had multiple conversations with the Eagles regarding McNabb, and about half a dozen teams are interested in backup quarterback Kevin Kolb, and I would bet the Browns are in that bunch as well. Mike Holmgren obviously has very little faith in the state of the quarterback position and, to be honest, McNabb does [...]
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that Cleveland Browns receiver Donte Stallworth will be reinstated following the Super Bowl. The Browns are not expected to keep Stallworth. He is due a bonus in the near future, and it is likely that the Team will part ways with Donte before that. At the time that the indefinite suspension was declared by Goodell, we made our opinions well-known on several ocassions and in many forums, including this website. The decision of Goodell was inconsistent with previous rulings and nothing but a transparent attempt to appease certain fan groups that were upset at [...]
2010 NFL Draft Player Profile: Safety Eric Berry
The Cleveland Browns have the 7th pick in the upcoming 2010 NFL Draft, which leaves them plenty of opportunities. It’s also impossible to count on your hands the number of needs this team currently has. Therefore, in the coming weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, we will be profiling some players that could potentially fit into the Browns’ draft plans. Eric Berry (Safety, Tennessee Vols) – 6-0, 194 lbs., 4.35 40 Eric Berry was pretty much the premier safety in the country while playing for the Tennessee Volunteers, racking up numerous awards and wowing crowds with his speed and [...]
