The San Diego Chargers have released 30-year-old LaDainian Tomlinson, ending an amazing nine-year career there that made him one of the NFL’s greatest running backs. Despite his recent lack of productivity, there is still something weird about seeing a player as great as Tomlinson leave a team not under his own accord. That being said, get that thought out of your head right now. The last thing the Browns need is a another aging running back to take time away from younger players with some potential.

The Cleveland Browns have cut veteran running back Jamal Lewis from the roster.  Lewis, who announced mid-season that he would retire after the campaign, is not ruling out playing again.  According to his agent, Jamal does not want to end his career on an injury and is most interested in joining the ranks of a contender in the upcoming season. Due to the recovery of surgery on his right toe, former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen will not be competing in the drills at theupcoming NFL Combine. He will be attending the Combine though, hoping to impress NFL teams with his smarts rather than just his physical attributes. The 6-3, 223-pound junior is considered one of the best quarterback prospects in the draft, which is a need the Browns are most certainly going to need to address this offseason. When thinking about how atrocious the Browns really were both offensively and defensively last season, it’s quite the miracle that they managed to win five games. After a period of much overreacting on the behalf of those who represent Joshua Cribbs, the talks regarding a new contract for the Pro Bowler have begun to improve. While there is no timetable for a contract to be done, there was a thought that it could be finished by the NFL Combine on February 24th. The rumors of Donovan McNabb leaving the Philadelphia Eagles have seemingly gone on for years. This time, however, it’s an actual possibility and the Browns are one of the teams interested in utilizing his services. Apparently, the Browns, Bills, and Broncos are the three teams that have had multiple conversations with the Eagles regarding McNabb, and about half a dozen teams are interested in backup quarterback Kevin Kolb, and I would bet the Browns are in that bunch as well. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that Cleveland Browns receiver Donte Stallworth will be reinstated following the Super Bowl. The Browns are not expected to keep Stallworth.  He is due a bonus in the near future, and it is likely that the Team will part ways with Donte before that.
