Due to the recovery of surgery on his right toe, former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen will not be competing in the drills at the
upcoming NFL Combine. He will be attending the Combine though, hoping to impress NFL teams with his smarts rather than just his physical attributes.
The 6-3, 223-pound junior is considered one of the best quarterback prospects in the draft, which is a need the Browns are most certainly going to need to address this offseason. Call it a hunch – or the fact that I’ve just never liked Clausen – but I don’t have high hopes for Clausen in the NFL; I think there is too much stock put in him simply because he comes from a system built by a former NFL offensive coordinator. We all know how well that has worked out for Brady Quinn.
When the NFL Draft rolls around in April, I’d be utterly shocked if the Browns picked Clausen, especially if Sam Bradford was still on the board (and with the seventh pick, I definitely think there’s a chance he will be there).

Right on, Steve. Clausen is overrated. Watch some tape, and you will agree. He has awesome size and good strength, but otherwise he is not a top 10 pick in the Draft.
Can you say Brady II? Look at the photo – it is priceless.
Amen! Clausen is definitely overrated(Mel Kiper of ESPN is in love with him)! He will be this years Brady Quinn. By that, I mean expected to be a top 10 pick and will fall to the mid/late 1st rd., and it will be more because of the intangibles then the physical. Although I don’t think his arm strength is all that great. And too much is being made out of the system he came from. Look at Quinn. He came from the same system(and his team actually won a lot of games), he was highly regarded going into the draft, but look where he is now.
I will say this though. If Clausen goes to the right team, with the right coaches, and is given a fair shot then he might have some success. I don’t think he will ever be an all-pro, but he could become a legitament starter(all of which are things that Quinn has never had).
