No matter what Mike Holmgren’s assertions are (that is, unless Sam Bradford is around, don’t expect the Browns to waste their first-round pick on a quarterback), some people refuse to believe the Browns president. Now, this is still just one person writing about the Browns selecting former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen, but the thought still sends shivers up my spine.
In a mock draft by Charles Davis of the NFL Network, he has the Browns selecting Clausen with the seventh overall pick. Even better, in this scenario the Browns would also be passing up safety Eric Berry. If this actually happened, [...]

Last season, the experiment of Josh Cribbs at wide receiver did not last long. However, with the Browns in need of serious need of wide receivers and offensive flexibility, head coach Eric Mangini wants to go back to using Cribbs as a receiver as well as continuing to implement him in the Wildcat formation, though I’m sure the two will often go hand in hand.
Naturally, there is the question of whether or not Cribbs can develop into a dependable receiver. More so, one has to wonder if all the time at wide receiver (though I don’t imagine he will be [...]
As we all know, the NFL owners approved a rules change this week, altering the way overtime works in the postseason. In a word, it is stupid. Both teams get a possession in the overtime period, unless the first team with the ball scores a touchdown. If the first team with the ball only kicks a lame-o field goal, then the other team gets a chance. Now, if that team scores a touchdown, the game is over. Otherwise, if the score is still tied after these possessions, the teams will play in a sudden death format.
Like everything in the [...]
Now that it is a certainty that the Browns will be selecting a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft, one hopes that our pick is more successful than similar selections in recent Team history.
We are not downplaying the difficulty in drafting a quarterback. It is one of those positions that bears little resemblance in the pros compared to college. Many better than average college quarterbacks are never able to cut the mustard in the NFL – the hits are too hard; the playbook is too complex; the measure of passing accuracy required is too exact; the pocket presence is too [...]
Many, many thanks to Jon Heath of Broncos Zone for providing Dawg Pound Daily with such an extensive background on the newly acquired Peyton Hillis. I’ve given him my final thoughts on Brady Quinn, which you can find over at Broncos Zone. Here are Jon’s thoughts on Hillis and Quinn:
I don’t think Browns fans know what they are really getting in Peyton Hillis, so I’m here to enlighten you all. In 2008, Mike Shanahan drafted Hillis in the seventh round (he was the 227th overall draft pick). Hillis was the starting fullback at Arkansas for four seasons. While a Razorback, he [...]
The rumblings about quarterback Tim Tebow and the Browns (and a lot of other teams, really) continue to grow larger, which begs the question: would it upset you to see Tebow in a Browns uniform? Despite any preconceived notions you might have about Tebow, the guy certainly knows how to win. But that doesn’t always translate perfectly into the NFL. I’ve never seen such polarizing views on a quarterback – some think he can become a decent starter while others think his only chance for success is by changing positions.
Ever since Tebow has worked on his mechanics, which I suppose [...]
After plenty of speculation, quarterback Brady Quinn has finally been traded by the Cleveland Browns. He was traded to the Denver Broncos for fullback Peyton Hillis, a 2011 sixth-round draft pick, and a conditional pick in 2012. A move to the Broncos makes sense, as the team was looking to trade for Quinn last season, but opted to trade for Kyle Orton instead. One has to think Orton is still the starter, but maybe a new team will help Quinn realize his potential. This also now makes the quarterback position entirely the product of the new front office.
It seems that people are disappointed [...]
The Browns have traded QB Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos for fullback Peyton Hillis and a 2011 draft pick. This comes on the heels of Cleveland signing 35-year veteran QB Jake Delhomme to a two-year, big money deal (especially for a guy who lost the starting position last season to a nobody while throwing 18 ITs in Carolina).
The fella above is who we should have chased to be our starter until a QB selected in the draft this year can get his feet wet. Even Peter King of SI seems dumbfounded as to why more teams are not pursuing [...]
So the Browns have signed QB Jake Delhomme to a two-year deal, a contract signed before Delhomme could even meet with the New Orleans Saints. The depth chart now contains Delhomme, Seneca Wallace, and, for the time being, Brady Quinn. The Browns were shopping Quinn even before the signing of Delhomme, so one has to believe that will intensify now.
If you somehow found a way to be excited about this signing, let me know.
“The Browns are Back”
It seems that every passing day leading up to the Draft is bringing news to Cleveland Browns fans. The release of veteran tight-end Steve Heiden and the signing of TE Watson from the New England Patriots are just two of the latest moves that the new front office in Brownstown has made.
My son was going through his videos this morning and pulled out an old one that I had picked up at a garage sale a few years back but never actually watched, until a few hours ago. NFL Films’ “The Browns are Back” (1999) is worth a watch for [...]
