Every day it seems that a new name emerges as to which player the Browns will take with the 7th overall pick Thursday night. To lay it all out I’ve decided to compile a list of those players and give a few thought on each while I’m at it. According to ESPN, the Pittsburgh Steelers are shopping QB Ben Roethlisberger, and are seeking a 1st round pick in exchange. How does this affect the Browns? Well, apparently the Steelers have contacted the Rams, 49ers, Raiders, Bills, Jaguars, Seahawks, and the  Browns. So far only the Rams and Bills have turned down the offer. It is believed that Pittsburgh is looking to get into a position to take QB Jimmy Clausen in the draft. A few things immediately stand out as I look at the Browns’ 2010 schedule: 1) That stretch from October 17th to November 7th (maybe even November 14th depending on how the Jets are this season) could be murderous to the Browns. They have back-to-back road games against the Steelers and Super Bowl champion Saints only to come off the bye week and play the Patriots, albeit at home. 2) How nice would it be for the Browns to open the season at 2-0 for a change? Safety Earl Thomas of Texas is rising up draft boards at blazing speeds, and some now believe that Thomas could possibly be a better prospect at safety than the highly-coveted Eric Berry. Thomas is a high character player – something the Browns love – and is known for being an extremely athletic and physical ballhawk. His versatility is certainly something worth mentioning, as he could also potentially play cornerback in the NFL. The news and rumors between quarterback Jimmy Clausen and the Cleveland Browns continue, as the former Notre Dame quarterback has said that he thinks the Browns would be a great fit for him. Clausen would enjoy being a member of the Browns organization partly because the pro-style offense he learned at Notre Dame is similar to the one the Browns currently run. Clausen is currently the #1 rated quarterback in the 2010 NFL Draft, according to expert Mel Kiper. Most of the talk about quarterbacks in the 2010 NFL Draft has revolved around Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen, but Colt McCoy has been gathering a little momentum lately with his impressive workouts and meetings with various teams, including the Browns. McCoy is confident, saying that he feels he is the best quarterback in the draft, and has attracted the attention of the Browns’ front office. But none of us should be getting our hopes up about it. GM Tom Heckert admitted that, yes, the Browns have talked with the St. Louis Rams about trading up for the #1 overall pick in hopes of nabbing quarterback Sam Bradford. It is no surprise that the Browns are going to try and draft a quarterback next weekend,  but trading up to the first overall pick is just unrealistic. The Browns have prided themselves on being able to acquire multiple draft picks, but a lot of that work would go away if the team traded up to get Bradford. [...]

RB Chris Jennings, was arrested early this morning, according to Cleveland.com. Jennings had been partying in Cleveland’s Warehouse District, when according to reports he ran into a bit of an altercation with the doorman of one of the clubs. Jennings has not been charged with any crimes, but was picked up and is being held by authorities. Jennings was re-signed by the Browns back in March. Last season Jennings rushed for 220 yards and 1 touchdown, the TD came in the Browns win over Pittsburgh.
