Don’t Rule Out QB Colt McCoy Playing in 2010
Despite the previous assertions that quarterback Colt McCoy would be spending the 2010 season on the sidelines, president Mike Holmgren has retracted a bit, saying “if he’s the guy, he plays.” That’s not to say that the Browns are looking for the first opportunity to stick McCoy in there, but it might be hard to hold him back if the team tanks this season. Even if the season is a disaster, I’m not sure that’s the best situation to put McCoy in, either. Sure, he’ll learn the pace of an NFL game while getting his feet wet in being utterly [...]
The Pressure is On Eric Mangini to Win Next Season
Seems like the latest theme on here is all the different pressures members of the Cleveland Browns organization are facing next season. Today, it is head coach Eric Mangini, the person likely feeling the most pressure going into next season. Despite the Browns winning the last four games of last season, Mangini appears to be a coach about to sit on the hot seat. This also comes after an off-season in which the rumors were swirling around his potential firing once Mike Holmgren took over as president. Luckily, the early part of the schedule is favorable to the Browns, but [...]
Obviously, much of the focus regarding the Browns offense has been centered on the quarterback position. It underwent a complete overhaul this off-season, as the team dumped both Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn for Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace. Acquiring quarterback Colt McCoy in the draft certainly added an entirely new level of intrigue to the position as well. The running back position was also addressed in the off-season, as the Browns acquired running back Peyton Hillis from the Denver Broncos in exchange for Quinn. Cleveland also traded back into the second round of the draft in order to select [...]
Browns Utilizing YouTube to Scout Players
Offensive lineman Joel Reinders, signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent, did not send out tapes of himself playing for the University of Waterloo in Canada. Instead, he and his agent relied on a YouTube highlight reel in the hopes that an NFL team would take notice and be impressed enough to give the giant lineman (Reinders is listed at 6-7, 320 lbs) a shot. Lucky for him, the Browns took that chance, and Reinders has become one of a few NFL players who have set a precedent for what could become a growing trend. It might seem [...]
According to some very strong hints by his twin brother Rex, head coach of the New York Jets, it would seem that Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan wanted to draft Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson with the seventh overall pick in last month’s NFL Draft. Instead, the Browns drafted Florida cornerback Joe Haden, while Wilson fell to the Jets with the 29th pick. During his press conference, Rex Ryan said, “There is somebody that I really know well for a long time that basically said that he was their guy and they picked a lot earlier than us.” All signs [...]
Plenty of Storylines at Browns Rookie Minicamp
One of the biggest storylines of the Browns rookie minicamp is the debut of quarterback Colt McCoy, and apparently, he did not disappoint. His passes were on target and crisp, something fans should com to expect from a player whose career completion percentage in college was over 70%. Naturally, he is fine with the prospect of staying on the sidelines for at least a year to learn the offense, as he should be. Plenty of great quarterbacks have gone down that route. Both defensive end Clifton Geathers and running back Montario Hardesty stand out as two particularly hard-working players. Geathers [...]
