Clifton Geathers, the 6-7, 300 lb behemoth on the defensive line, has signed a multi-year contract with the Cleveland Browns, making him the first of the team’s eight 2010 NFL Draft picks to sign with the team. The huge defensive lineman was the team’s last draft pick, coming to the Browns in the sixth round. Geathers brings a lot of size and length to the defensive line, but he is a raw player that carries some of that baggage in the form of his personal conduct. He says what’s on his mind, which will always be entertaining, but he was [...]
Josh Cribbs Making His Acting Debut on FX’s “The League”
WR/RB/KR/PR/Wildcat QB Josh Cribbs will make his acting debut on an episode of FX’s hilarious fantasy football-based comedy, The League. Cribbs will be the second Kent State product to make a cameo appearance on the show, following in Antonio Gates’ shoes. For further updates, follow Cribbs on his twitter account. And if you haven’t seen The League yet, stop everything you’re doing and do yourself a favor by checking it out.
The impending NBA free agency set to begin later this week has got me thinking. Now, you’re probably asking yourself, “Why does this matter to a Browns blog?” Just follow me here… Unless you have been living under a rock or have been avoiding ESPN the past month, then I’m sure you have heard about the NBA free agent class of 2010. The cream of the crop has to be Ohio’s own LeBron James, and there are a bevy of other great free agents available too. LeBron is basically holding both the city of Cleveland and the Cavaliers hostage by [...]
Well, it appears that the moral saint of the NFL, commissioner Roger Goodell, has decided that pleading no contest to assault misdemeanour by clubbing a friend of LeBron James outside a Cleveland night club last October is not deserving of any suspension for former Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards, now with the New York Jets (he was traded within days of the incident in question). Although Braylon violated the league’s personal conduct policy, Goodell will treat this matter with a fine likely equivalent to you or I throwing an extra 25 cents into the fountain at the mall. It is [...]
Dawg Pound Daily is Looking for Writers!
As the title suggests, we are in fact looking to expand our editorial staff here at Dawg Pound Daily. We are looking to add 1-2 new staff writers to the site who want to cover anything and everything Cleveland Browns. The best candidates would be those who exhibit a strong writing ability and have a great passion for the team and the sport. The position is not paid, but you will certainly gain a lot of exposure, as you will be sharing your views on the Cleveland Browns and the NFL with a large audience. Because the position is not [...]
The Old Spice Guy Used to Be a Cleveland Brown?
That’s right, the same guy you see riding around on a horse in those Old Spice commercials was once a Cleveland Brown, back in 1999. Isaiah Mustafa – that’s his real name – also played for the Tennessee Oilers (talk about a throwback) in 1998, the Oakland Raiders in 1999, and the Seattle Seahawks in 2000.
In a recent interview with the Detroit Free Press, former scUM and Browns WR Braylon Edwards told the reporter that he’s got two games already circled on his calendar, the first being the November 7th match-up against the Lions: I’m excited to play back home. It’ll be fun because I have so much family here that supports me. So I can’t wait for them to get a chance to come to the game. Fair enough, right? Well, it gets better, because as we all know Braylon just doesn’t know when to shut up. Seven days later is the game I’m worried about, [...]
Browns Rookies Volunteer to Work Football Clinic
Just like last year, the Browns rookies will volunteer at a football clinic. However, this time around the camp will not be held in Massachusetts; instead, the camp will be held at the Browns’ training facilities in Berea. If you recall last season, all the rookies had to ride to the camp and then drive back for practice the next day. I’m glad to see NFL players giving back to the community, but last year’s situation was a bit much. Call me crazy, but this year’s plan sounds a little bit better.
I’m fairly certain that there are few – if any – fans out there who believe that the Cleveland Browns are going to win the Super Bowl in 2011. I’m also sure there aren’t too many people who believe that the Browns are playoff-bound, either. Therefore, expectations have to be curbed down to a more realistic level, but that also means even the most optimistic fans are putting the Browns, at best, somewhere around .500. In that case, are we really promoting mediocrity and allowing ourselves to be trapped in a perpetual state of lowered expectations? As frustrating as it [...]
Browns Waive CB Ramzee Robinson, Picked Up By Redskins
This is that time of the summer where the news often comes to a grinding halt. In that case, we report the fact that the Browns have waived cornerback Ramzee Robinson like it’s the biggest move the team has made since leaving for Baltimore. But the man who the Browns had originally claimed off waivers from the Detroit Lions is now a member of the Washington Redskins. Robinson came to the Browns in December of 2009, making two special teams tackles in the last four games of the season. Most notable about Robinson is the fact that he was Mr. [...]
