The Cleveland Browns have signed fifth-round pick Larry Asante, a safety out of Nebraska, to go with the team’s other draft signings in defensive lineman Clifton Geathers and wide receiver Carlton Mitchell. Asante prides himself on being a physical force in the secondary and, lucky for him, he should get plenty of chances to prove it.
Asante’s scouting reports note him as a good tackler with speed that makes him capable of getting into the backfield, though his roaming tendencies can, at times, make him a liability in coverage.
The teams’ bigger draft picks like quarterback Colt McCoy, cornerback Joe Haden, safety T.J. Ward, and running back Montario Hardesty have yet to be signed, but it will happen eventually. It’s hard to imagine there being any real holdouts with this group of draft picks.
