2009 Second-Round Pick David Veikune Waived by Cleveland Browns

Many people were scratching their heads  at the fact that the Browns’ 53-man roster included 12 linebackers after the final cuts were made. To help correct that imbalance, the Browns have waived 2009 second-round pick David Veikune, a linebacker who, as it is evident now, did not pan out. Veikune was a defensive end from Hawaii and was tried at both outside and inside linebacker in Cleveland, making him a dreaded “tweener.”

The move made room for cornerback Derrick Roberson, a practice squad journeyman who at least brings a little depth to the secondary. The Browns now have 11 linebackers and four cornerbacks.

– Also, in case you missed it and were upset that safety Larry Asante was cut on Saturday, he has been signed to the practice squad. Clifton Geathers, the raw, but massive defensive lineman, has been picked up by the Miami Dolphins, however.

– The Browns have also confirmed the acquisition of offensive lineman Steve Vallos off waivers and the waiving of offensive lineman Billy Yates.
