A quarterback controversy seems to be brewing in Cleveland, but what else is new? It felt weird going almost half the season without a great deal of uncertainty at the position. That being said, let’s fuel the fire and pose this question: provided that all are healthy, who should be the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns?
Remember that depth the Browns supposedly had at the running back position? Let’s just pretend we never brought it up. In a way, the Browns did take advantage of that supposed depth, as Peyton Hillis has emerged as the featured back this season. However, it also came at the expense of Jerome Harrison and James Davis’ playing time. Harrison was traded a few weeks ago and Davis is now the latest running back to be let go, as the Browns have released the 2009 seventh-round pick. With Montario Hardesty out for the whole season, let’s just say that the running [...]
Week 7 NFL Round-up: Points, Points, Points
As usual there were a ton of strange scores on the scoreboard this week. The NFL always gives us a bunch of upsets we never saw coming, but we rarely see the crooked numbers some of the teams put up Week 7. Officially it was the highest scoring week in the NFL since 1983. Is this a preview of how life is going to be in the new, less dangerous NFL? Here’s what happened around the league Week 7: Browns 30 @ Saints 17 Not only did the Browns defeat the Saints in New Orleans as 14 point underdogs, they crushed them by 13. [...]
The Drive That Kept Eric Mangini Alive
There were lots of things to like about Sunday’s 30-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints: the coaching was excellent, the trickeration was effective , and the four interceptions of Drew Brees were completely unexpected, but greatly appreciated. Fluky? Of course, but I bet those three things were at the top of everybody’s list. Mine as well, only the coaching, tricks, and picks ranked 2-4 on my personal list - in no particular order. My favorite part about the game, however, was the Browns’ lone fourth quarter drive, or what I’d like to call the drive that kept Eric Mangini alive. [...]
Browns Baffle Saints for a Big Win in New Orleans
In the Browns’ 30-17 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, the team took most of those “never thought I’d see that” moments and rolled them all up into one afternoon. A throwback on a punt return, a punter running 68 yards on a fake punt, a running back completing a pass to a rookie quarterback in the fourth quarter, and a linebacker returning two interceptions for touchdowns – oh, and this is all without mentioning the additional interceptions by the defense for a total of four on the day. Drew Brees and the Saints were perplexed by the [...]

Josh Cribbs Will Play on Sunday Against the Saints
Despite sustaining a concussion last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Josh Cribbs will play against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday. Cribbs took one of the controversial hits from Steelers linebacker James Harrison that resulted in Harrison receiving a $75,000 fine. The do-it-all Browns player, though, has continued to emphasize the point that he does not think that Harrison is a dirty player or that he needs to change his game in any way. Whether or not you feel the same way as Cribbs, it will be good to see him on the field on Sunday because, well, the Browns [...]
Week 7 Preview and How the Browns Will Win
This week’s opponent – New Orleans Saints Like we here at DPD and the national media as a whole have discussed ad nauseum this week, a certain former Texas Longhorn played much better than most would have suspected last weekend in Pittsburgh. Can Colt McCoy keep it up this week? Who honestly knows, but it will surely provide a nice story either way this weekend. The Browns will head on down to Louisiana and square off against last year’s Super Bowl winners, the New Orleans Saints, who have been somewhat inconsistent so far this season. The good news for the [...]
The NFL cycles through hot-button issues on a week-by-week basis, and this week, the league’s new policy regarding dangerous hits has everyone talking, and continues to pick up steam. That being said, I think it’s important to say at least one more thing about it: I’m not saying these rules are perfect, and obviously I understand that this is a violent game, but football was never a game intended to be as life-altering as what constant head injuries can do to a person. Great defense in the NFL isn’t about “jacking someone up”, though that is now the trend in [...]
