After all the hullabaloo over giving this team an extreme quarterback makeover, both Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace are injured, after just five games.
The Atlanta Falcons last played the Browns in 2006, and they haven’t played in Cleveland since 2002 – the Browns’ lone playoff season of the expansion era. The Browns won both 17-13 in 2006, and 24-16 in the 2002 season finale to clinch a playoff berth. For my money the later was the most exciting game of the expansion era, and also included the New Browns’ most exciting play: a 64 yard TD blast by rookie running back William Green to ice it (sure Josh Cribbs has had some exhilarating runs, but never in a game they won and got them into [...]
Running back Peyton Hillis – easily the Browns’ offensive MVP so far this season – now has an unspecified thigh injury. He was limited in Thursday’s practice and has been added to the team’s injury report. It is not known what this does to his availability for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Getting hurt this late in the week isn’t the best timing, but I wouldn’t freak out just yet. – In other news, rookie safety T.J. Ward has been fined $15,000 by the league for his hit on Bengals wide receiver Jordan Shipley, one that gave Shipley a [...]

Looking Back at the Browns’ Victory Over the Bengals
t Outsiders may view 11 straight hours of watching football on a Sunday as a rather sloth-like way to spend 11 hours of a Sunday. On the surface, I can understand why those on the outside looking in would find this to be a pretty unproductive and relatively stress-free way to blow a Sunday. So I’m not going to dispute this stance taken by legions of females across the country, but I am going to counter it with the idea that watching 11 straight hours of football on Sunday is by no means as relaxing and carefree as these women might [...]
Week 4 NFL Roundup: Division of Labor
The Browns and their fans finally had a win soaked Monday morning to enjoy. The victory was even sweeter because it came in the Battle of Ohio against a division rival… And they weren’t the only ones who defied the odds-makers with an unusually strong showing within their division. Perceptions are shifting, winning has a way of doing that – Here’s what else happened Week 4: Bengals 20 @ Browns 23 Peyton Hillis and the Browns were due in this one, and finally hung on to a fourth quarter lead to vanquish the Bengals Sunday. The win ended Cincinnati’s [...]
Before we talk about the reasons why the Browns won against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, we must first address the biggest issue of the day: rookie safety T.J. Ward’s hit on Bengals receiver Jordan Shipley. In the fourth quarter with the Browns up 23-13, the Bengals were driving deep in Browns territory and quarterback Carson Palmer threw a pass into the end zone intended for Shipley. The pass was going to be incomplete, but Ward was already aiming to put a big hit on Shipley. Ward had to assume that Shipley was going to make the catch – which [...]

College Football Preview: Week 5
The College Football Preview will be an ongoing weekly series every Saturday morning, previewing the top games of the week and eligible players for the upcoming NFL draft. Top Games 8 pm – CBS – #7 Florida at #1 Alabama – In a rematch of the past two SEC Championship games both team will look to assert their dominance atop the SEC. A lose tonight, though not ideal in any situation, doesn’t spell season-ending doom. Florida got off to a slow start this season, but now looks to be more comfortable. While Alabama had been without RB Mark Ingram, [...]
This is a road we’ve all been down before. The Browns are 0-3 and the season is sinking faster than your dad does into the couch after Thanksgiving dinner. But, as always, we continue to look forward to each and every game, because one day the Browns will emerge as a Super Bowl contender. Right? Anyway, here’s some links for today: In addition to writing here on Dawg Pound Daily, I am also writing a weekly article for NFL.com, and this week I wrote that, despite Peyton Hillis’ emergence, the offense still needs plenty of work. Which quarterback gives the [...]
