What Can the Browns Do To Save Jake Delhomme From Himself

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Quarterback Drama | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Could it be that Jake Delhomme is the Browns’ best option at quarterback next Sunday heading into Miami, and also the worst at the same time? We’re about to find out. The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde quarterback looked great early against the Carolina Panthers, guiding the Browns to a 21-7 lead. Then the Panthers made their move in the second half when Hyde took over. He fumbled and threw two interceptions, in the span of five plays! The Brett Favre-like dizzying highs and terrifying lows are what the Browns paid for with Delhomme. Now they are stuck with him. Former Browns QB Derek Anderson Has Eventful Postgame (Video)

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Other/Off-Topic | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I bet Derek Anderson is longing for the days back in 2007 when Browns fans were lavishing praise on the gunslinger, only to discover his flaws as a quarterback as the season wore on. Despite playing his way out of Cleveland, Anderson is now the starter with the Arizona Cardinals and, as you might have guessed, it’s not going so well. On Monday, the Cardinals – looking pre-Kurt Warner hapless – lost to the San Francisco 49ers to fall to 3-8. The Monday Night Football cameras caught Anderson apparently laughing about something on the sidelines near the end of the [...]

How the Browns Beat the Carolina Panthers, 24-23

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Gameday | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The best part about the NFL is that on any given Sunday, any team can win. Even 1-9 teams playing on the road should be taken seriously, and the Browns nearly learned that the hard way on Sunday, escaping with a 24-23 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Browns found a variety of ways to throw this one away, including fumbles, interceptions, and poor playcalling, but, for once, an ugly game went in their favor. The Browns didn’t have to be perfect – and they were far from it, doing their best to lose this one – but in the [...]

With Colt McCoy Out, Is Mangini’s Job in Jeopardy?

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Links | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

In addition to the work that I do here at Dawg Pound Daily, I have the great opportunity to write a weekly column with the Blog Blitz section over at NFL.com. I’ll post an excerpt of my article, and you can follow the link to read the rest. Here is this week’s excerpt: Colt McCoy has fallen victim to the devious high ankle sprain that has bulldozed through Browns quarterbacks this season, and it’s not known how long he will be out. If the same injuries to Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace are any indication, it could be four to [...]

QB Jake Delhomme to Start Against Former Team

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries | COMMENTS: None Yet

Quarterback Jake Delhomme will get the chance to start against his former team, the Carolina Panthers, on Sunday. With Colt McCoy sitting out with an ankle sprain, Delhomme gets to exact some revenge against the team that cut him last season. Everyone has become pretty excited about what McCoy brings to the future of this team, and Delhomme certainly recognizes that, but it’s nice to see him getting a chance to show the Panthers what they’ve been missing in a miserable, injury-ravaged season. We all wanted to see what McCoy could do against the weaker teams of the league, but [...]

What About the Browns Makes You Thankful?

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Ah, Thanksgiving, the festive day of over-eating and utter indulgence. Sometimes, it’s less about family than it is about seeing just how much food you can stuff in your face before a) it’s all gone or b) you feel like you’re going to explode. Now, Thanksgiving is also about, well, being thankful for what you have in your life, and that includes our beloved Browns. They may be 3-7, but this hasn’t been a typical, no-signs-of-life 3-7. There is plenty to be excited about and certainly plenty to be thankful for. Here’s what the Browns make me thankful for this [...]

Colt McCoy Out Sunday with High Ankle Sprain (Seriously)

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The curse of the high ankle sprain continues. Quarterback Colt McCoy has been ruled out against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday with the same injury that took down both Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace earlier this season. It looks like Delhomme will get the nod against the Panthers; he hasn’t started a game since Week One against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s hard to determine how long McCoy will be out, as the high ankle sprain can be a tricky injury, but after Delhomme and Wallace’s injuries, and the severity of McCoy’s, it could keep him out around four-to-six weeks. [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Links | COMMENTS: None Yet

In Cleveland, it only takes one week for things to go from “Hey, things are starting to turn around!” to “It’s the same old thing – I’m done with Cleveland sports!” All of a sudden, Jake Delhomme might be back on the field and all of the coaches’ jobs are in jeopardy. Never a dull moment when it comes to the Browns, huh? Jake Delhomme is back to 100 percent, which means we could see him on the field Sunday (Cleveland.com) The Internet Predicts Shakeup in Berea (Waiting for Next Year) The Browns Biggest Weakness Showed Up on Sunday (ESPN [...]

Browns Blow It in Jacksonville, Lose 24-20

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Gameday | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Teams that turn the ball over as much as the Jacksonville Jaguars did on Sunday win about five percent of the time. One of those rare occasions was Sunday, as the Jaguars beat the Browns 24-20. The blame for this loss can be passed to all aspects of the team, including the defense. Even after forcing six turnovers, including a stretch of five consecutive turnovers in the second half, Maurice Jones-Drew was able to waltz his way to a 75-yard catch that started as just a screen, setting up the final go-ahead touchdown for Jacksonville. And the worst thing about [...]
