Cleveland Browns Fire Eric Mangini After Another 5-11 Season

Well, it’s finally official. After increased speculation, team president Mike Holmgren has relieved Eric Mangini of his duties as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Mangini went 10-22 (.312) in his two seasons in Cleveland and it is obviously rumored that Holmgren might return to the sidelines. Browns fans can only hope that Holmgren or someone like Jon Gruden decide to coach the team, because the rest of the head coaching candidates out there are less than desirable (Marty Mornhinweg, anyone?).

Be sure to keep checking back with us, as we will continue to cover Mangini’s firing and the Browns’ search for a new head coach (if there even is one).

    Bring back Butch Davis.

Kidding, of course. But I’m not kidding that I miss a lot of what Butch brought to the table. Some of you remember those days. Cool Davis wearing the leather jacket on the sidelines, and no cap or toque, even in the snow. Going ape shit on the referees during bottlegate. Throwing stuff around. And coaching the Browns when we still demanded some respect. Remember that last playoff game against the Steelers when we went toe for toe, scoring major points and throwing bombs down the field? That was exciting. Man, our offense was streaky but when we were on, we were on! Now we are a shell on offense. It is just plain embarassing. We play like a bunch of contractors trying to pound earth with ceramic hands.

Holmgren had NO choice. You CANNOT leave a guy in place as head coach who does not win one extra game on the season despite a better overall roster. And when the players quit, you have to make a move. They quit yesterday.

A few questions for those faint of heart out there. Remember the few of us who were bemoaning Cribbs’ bitching and whining about his contract? What did Josh bring this season?

Hey – I know that comment will make me incredibly unpopular among many who follow this website, but seriously, did Cribbs earn the money? Don’t give me that crap about being covered better on kicks – what about Hester? And save the lines about not getting enough action – I agree we should have used the wildcat more often, but the fact remains that Cribbs did virtually nothing when he did touch the football. A bunch of fumbles and a couple hundred total yards in receptions with a few carries mixed in.

Rob Ryan won’t get the job in Carolina. He will be back. Daboll is history – Holmgren has the axe out already.

Right now, it is Holmgren, Gruden or Fox in Cleveland in 2011 on the sidelines.

Did anyone watch that press conference with Eric last evening? That was an abomination. He looked like he was 12 years old and had just lost his kitten. That cap almost made me throw my scotch glass through the TV (no brew left after drownin’ the tears).

Randy Lerner is good for the money. He will pay anything. Anything. Say what you want about Randy and his sociopath tendencies – the guy is not tight with cash.

    Get it right, Mike.

This is my second rant in a few weeks. Sorry.

I agree Clayton. Cribbs never showed up this year. Note to next coach: Please refer to this season and observe how a coach can take a pro bowl return man and turn him into a bad receiver and so-so return man.

Gruden, Gruden or Gruden. Those are the only choices for HC.

I have been a browns fan for many years now – keeping the faith – going to games – buying the shirts ect….taking the heat from steeler friends – I have came “finally” to the conclusion that RANDY LERNER should be fired! How do you BUILD IF YOU KEEP TEARING APART! The browns are a grave yard for QB’S and coach’s! remember Bill B 5 season’s only 1 a winning season – what he showed up at New England – 2001? how long has Brady been there? hmmm how about Payton at Indy – well look at the steeler’s – they continue the program ” every stink-n two years it is a new “not improved” team – I donot fault the player’s -the coach’s as I now point my frustration on Mr Randy L! I weathered the storm when the browns went to Baltimore – stayed the course – mr Lerner it’s not that the browns fans are leaving _you’ve left us! and the players -coach’s ect… don’t throw McCoy under the bus like the other’s – give the kid a team to grow with – Hillis- cribs- robinski ect… and O LINE MAN UP!
