How Would You Grade the 2010 Cleveland Browns Season?
Starting this week, we will be rolling out our 2010 season review of the Cleveland Browns. To start it off, we’d like to know what you thought of the season. Was it a success given the depth of talent this team has, or would you rather chalk this one up as a total bust? Let us know!
In addition to the work that I do here at Dawg Pound Daily, I have the opportunity to write a weekly column with the Blog Blitz section over at NFL.com. I’ll post an excerpt of my article, and you can follow the link to read the rest. Here is this week’s excerpt: There is a very valid argument for hiring a coordinator to be a team’s head coach. After all, how else does a guy get his shot at being a head coach? It makes sense for a lot of teams to hire a coordinator, whether it’s his first attempt [...]
How’s this for exciting?! Alright, I’ll admit, the Browns’ head coaching search so far has left me less than enthused. However, there’s at least some reason to be excited about the prospect of Pat Shurmur becoming the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns. He did help rookie quarterback Sam Bradford succeed in his rookie year, after all. I’m just not sure that’s enough reason to “get psyched” for Shurmur. Shurmur has been called a wild card in the Browns’ search for a head coach, but it’s still hard to imagine the Browns going with a coordinator. It just doesn’t [...]
Each new name thrown out there is like another throbbing pain to an already immensely painful migraine: Mike Mularkey? Pat Shurmur? Perry Fewell? Someone wake me when this coaching search is over, or when team president Mike Holmgren has a press conference to announce either Jon Gruden or himself as the next head coach of the Browns. And I don’t say that simply because I want to see the team coached by a high-profile guy.
Has the list of people coming into Cleveland to interview for the head coaching position got you down? Why don’t we take a break and look at the Browns’ 2011 opponents? It has to be better than considering Pat Shurmur, Mike Mularkey, or Marty Mornhinweg as the next head coach, right? At first glance, the 2011 schedule has to be easier, even if you just consider that the Browns will be playing the NFC West. Even better, the Browns can finally go a season without playing the Buffalo Bills! Here is the full list of the Browns’ 2011 opponents: Home: [...]
Well, it’s finally official. After increased speculation, team president Mike Holmgren has relieved Eric Mangini of his duties as head coach of the Cleveland Browns. Mangini went 10-22 (.312) in his two seasons in Cleveland and it is obviously rumored that Holmgren might return to the sidelines. Browns fans can only hope that Holmgren or someone like Jon Gruden decide to coach the team, because the rest of the head coaching candidates out there are less than desirable (Marty Mornhinweg, anyone?). Be sure to keep checking back with us, as we will continue to cover Mangini’s firing and the Browns’ [...]
First Rumor for Browns New Coach: Marty Mornhinweg?
NFL analyst Peter King speculated on NBC’s Sunday Night Football telecast, that Brown’s head coach Eric Mangini will indeed be fired following a humiliating 41-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their season finale. He also reported Browns President Mike Holmgren may target Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg to replace him. Wait, really? Get ready for a rumor filled off-season Browns fans, we should at least all be used to it by now.
Is This Eric Mangini’s Last Game in Cleveland?
In addition to the work that I do here at Dawg Pound Daily, I have the opportunity to write a weekly column with the Blog Blitz section over at NFL.com. I’ll post an excerpt of my article, and you can follow the link to read the rest. Here is this week’s excerpt: It is becoming increasingly evident that today’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers might be the last one for head coach Eric Mangini. Just as the last quarter of the season might have saved him last year, the last quarter of this season might have spelled doom for Mangini, [...]
Play for Pride and the Fans – A Fan’s Plea
The Browns have nothing to play for, is what some people say. In fact, losing this game will actually help the Browns. By losing this week, they would receive a higher draft choice and all but seal the fate of coach Eric Mangini. To some extent, I can see where is argument make sense. In fact, 9 times out of 10, I would be behind this. But not this week. The Browns have actually have two things to play for, pride and the fans. Beating the Steelers would not only make my day, but it would allow me 9 months of gloating [...]
Running back Peyton Hillis is listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with sore ribs, as he missed practice for three straight days this week. Even if he is able to go, fans will probably get to see plenty of Mike Bell, who, surprisingly, looked pretty good against the Baltimore Ravens last week. It’s been a tough end to the season for Hillis, and it’s too bad, because he was crafting a pretty good resume for the Pro Bowl. The Browns certainly worked him overtime and the season eventually took its toll on him. Just another reason [...]
