Cleveland Browns Sign Offensive Lineman Artis Hicks

In addition to acquiring quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, linebacker Quinton Spears, and defensive lineman Emmanuel Stephens on Sunday, the Cleveland Browns also signed veteran offensive lineman Artis Hicks to a one-year deal.

The Browns claimed Hicks, now entering his tenth year in the league, off waivers from the Washington Redskins, and believe that he can challenge for the starting spot at left guard. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the Browns have lost faith in rookie Jason Pinkston – it simply means that the Browns realize just how much of a crater the loss of Eric Steinbach has left in the depth of this offensive line.

To make room for Hicks, the Browns released offensive lineman Pat Murray.
