One of the great things about sports is that there is always something to talk about. Whether it’s reacting to the team’s performance in a game, trade rumors, injuries, upcoming draft candidates or even which Hollywood starlet was recently seen dating an athlete, fans will talk about it. Recently, the Cleveland market added another radio station for fans to talk about all things sports and a topic earlier this week blew me away. And it blew me so far away I nearly caused a Twitter riot and then needed two days to get my head together so that I could write [...]

I had the privilege of speaking with the guys over at the show “On the Fin Side,” part of Finsradio.net, on Wednesday night, as we talked about the Browns’ upcoming match-up with the Miami Dolphins. We discussed Colt McCoy’s emergence, problematic match-ups for the Browns, and much more. “Guys! We’re 1-1! Tied for the AFC North lead! Signs of life! We’re onto something!” Sound like someone you know? If not, it probably sounds like someone you follow on Twitter. It’s been a week full of really bizarre overreactions from a fan base that is accustomed to unfettered failure. Many “knowledgeable” people (again, I’m referring to Twitter) are really picking up on the positives from the Browns’ Week Two victory. I love the Cleveland Browns, but come on. Our pass defense is very good statistically, sure, but have you noticed that we played against quarterbacks nicknamed “The Red Rifle,” [...]
2011 NFL Power Rankings: Week Two
Rank (LW) Team Comment 2011 Record 1 (1) Packers It took the Packers a while to wake up against the Panthers, but not even Cam Newton’s 432 yards could bring them down. 2-0 2 (2) Patriots Tom Brady is your early front-runner for MVP. 2-0 3 (5) Jets The Jets took care of business against the Jaguars, getting back on track after their gift-wrapped win against the Cowboys. 2-0 4 (7) Falcons The Falcons made a big statement in what was likely a must-win game, even if Michael Vick was out for parts of it with a concussion. 1-1 5 [...]
The Cleveland Browns have been working a rotation of Oniel Cousins and Artis Hicks at right tackle in the absence of starter Tony Pashos, who has been dealing with a foot injury, and it has produced mixed results. In the Browns’ first game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Pashos’ absence was noticeable, as Bengals defenders consistently punched through the right side of the line to get pressure on quarterback Colt McCoy. However, the line played much better against the Indianapolis Colts, helping Colt McCoy throw for 211 yards and running back Peyton Hillis rush for 94 yards, albeit on 27 carries. While there is [...]
Ah, the weight of high expectations blowing up in everyone’s face. Gosh it’s nice to know this happens to other teams too. What’s going on in Kansas City right now reminds me of the 2008 Cleveland Browns, my favorite season ever. The Chiefs are in trouble. They are 0-2 this season, skinned alive by the Detroit Lions to the tune of 48-3, and the Buffalo Bills 41-7. I love the Lions and Bills as teams on the rise like everyone else, but they just demolished the Chiefs like they are the Patriots and Packers, and they’re not the Patriots and [...]
In the Cleveland Browns’ first two games of the season, wide receiver Brian Robiskie has had two balls thrown to him, but no catches to show for it. Robiskie didn’t even see a pass come his way in the team’s win over the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. In his first two seasons, Robiskie never exactly lit it up, but that recent stat line still begs the question: What is going on with Brian Robiskie? He is in the much-anticipated third season, the time for a wide receiver to prove his worth in the NFL. Many feel that if a receiver [...]
The Cleveland Browns were able to bounce back from a disappointing loss against the Cincinnati Bengals and defeat the struggling Indianapolis Colts on Sunday by a score of 27-19. It was an improved effort overall, as the offense was efficient and the defense was able to contain the Colts offense from the start. It was an important step for this young Browns squad to take, to put their last game behind them and take care of business against a team they were “supposed” to beat. What stood out to you the most in Sunday’s victory? Was it Colt McCoy’s accuracy, the [...]
Cleveland Browns fans everywhere are finally able to let out a giant, collective sigh of relief. The season isn’t lost, and the Browns are by no means the most hopeless team in the world, as they took care of business in Indianapolis against the Colts on Sunday, winning 27-19. The Browns were able to run the ball, giving it to running back Peyton Hillis 27 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Hillis also had four receptions for 23 yards. Colt McCoy improved upon a decent first outing as well, completing 22 of 32 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown [...]
My friends and I came of age in a somewhat Brownsless world. They played their final season before the unmerciful move to Baltimore when I was in the ninth grade. At that time, pretty much everyone growing up in Cleveland was totally consumed with the magic of the Jacobs Field-era Indians. The Cavs were horrible. By the time the Browns were back, we had graduated high school and moved away. I look back now and realize my high school time was probably the prime of my sports consumption abilities. I was old enough to work a summer job and drive myself [...]
