Browns vs. Vikings: Live Game Thread for Week 3

The Browns take on the Vikings with a new quarterback and a new running back in Brian Hoyer and Willis McGahee fresh off the street, but it is difficult to see how the offense could have been much worse than they were the first two weeks with Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson.  They also get Josh Gordon back off of his suspension, so seeing how they will be utilized this week could be a nice boost for the offense.

As Hoyerific as the offense might be, the more interesting aspect of this game to keep an eye on is the #4 ranked run defense matched up against Adrian Peterson.  The last time the Browns played Minnesota, they held Peterson relatively quiet in the first half before he exploded and dominated the second half capped off by a run and a highlight that Eric Wright would prefer never be aired again.  As good as the Browns run defense has looked, albeit in two games, Peterson can be a big time measuring stick.  He tends to be an all or nothing runner because of how hard defenses work to stop him, so he will get a number of runs that go nowhere and then break off a huge one that breaks the back of the defense.

Here is the live game thread to discuss the game and there will probably be some discussion about Richardson and how people feel about the move as well after a few days to listen to various arguments and come up with their own opinion.

Everyone weighing in on Richardson deal, including people who really shouldn’t like Mike Ditka. Tons of speculation of the futures of Josh Gordon and Greg Little. Gordon has immense talent but off the field is a scary deal. Tough to weigh risk-reward there. Santonio Holmes was only worth a 5th in a similar circumstance. If that Gordon would fetch, just keep him.

As much as I hope the Browns end up in position to draft Teddy Bridgewater and get the offense back on track, I do enjoy watching this front seven operate. They are legitimately good

  • Pete Smith

Great play by Skrine… not sure who missed the assignment there, but he made up for it

  • Pete Smith

Vikings came out with a good drive… get out to 7-0 lead quickly.

  • Pete Smith

Skrine gets a lot of crap (much of it earned) but he has been solid so far today. Browns pressure not getting to Ponder so far

  • Pete Smith

    Hoyerific offense so far

  • Pete Smith

    Well, there’s Gordon

  • Pete Smith

Mingo gets pressure, forces Ponder into Billy Winn who gets the sack

  • Pete Smith

Josh Gordon does so much for this offense… just gotta find a way for him to stay out of trouble

  • Kyle Quinlan

Gordon may win this on his own

  • Kyle Quinlan

    Hoyer is killing it

  • Pete Smith

Wow… Hoyer hits Cameron in the corner of the endzone. Browns about to go up 14-7.

  • Kyle Quinlan

Hoyer and Mingo may ruin our draft picks

  • Kyle Quinlan

    Patterson had a NICE catch

  • Pete Smith

Ponder with a QB draw. 14-14. Just a bizarre game

  • Kyle Quinlan

Over/Under on if we ever see Weeden at QB

    • Pete Smith

      1.5

  • Pete Smith

wow… fake punt and a big run from Josh Aubrey

  • Kyle Quinlan

    Great fake and run

  • Pete Smith

Cundiff 4/4 as a Brown. 17-14 set up by fake punt

  • Joe Mazzulo

Nice job to salvage that drive and at least get a field goal. Need to hold here and try and get another drive in before getting the ball back at halftime.

  • Pete Smith

Kruger is a bastard as a run defender. Constantly involved

  • Pete Smith

deflected pass for an interception by T.J. Ward… that sounds familiar

  • Joe Mazzulo

Nice play by Robertson and Ward. Get a touchdown here.

  • Pete Smith

Gordon… he can get open so easily

  • Joe Mazzulo

    Josh Gordon is a stud.

  • Pete Smith

After Holmgren says Richardson best offensive player on team, Gordon may gain as many yards in one game as he had in two… as a receiver

  • Joe Mazzulo

Big third down right here. I am looking for a quick out to Bess.

  • Pete Smith

    …this is unreal

  • Joe Mazzulo

This coaching staff is not tanking.

    • Pete Smith

The Vikings coaching staff is looking to get fired…

  • Kyle Quinlan

    Who r these people

  • Joe Mazzulo

150% of our scoring production for the year in one half of football. Is Josh Gordon that good? Is Brandon Weeden that bad?

    • Pete Smith

      Both

  • Pete Smith

Wow… Phil Taylor just slapped him down for a sack. Mingo there if he was not. Bull rushed Kalil

  • Kyle Quinlan

    Taylor abused the center

  • Joe Mazzulo

Phil Taylor is an angry, angry man.

  • Joe Mazzulo

Need a stop here. Sweep the leg.

  • Pete Smith

Travis Benjamin… superstar in preseason. Dud in regular season so far

  • Kyle Quinlan

    What was he thinking

  • Pete Smith

Leslie Frazier is not good at football

  • Joe Mazzulo

Awful, awful play right there. momentum killer. You have a chance to get a drive together and get the ball back at halftime with at least a 10 point cushion. Just brutal.

  • Joe Mazzulo

Need a stop here. Hold them to a field goal and hopefully get a chance at a score before the half.

  • Pete Smith

Learn your lesson… please learn your lesson

  • Joe Mazzulo

    Brian Hoyer can play quarterback.

  • Joe Mazzulo

    Excellent timing.

  • Pete Smith

    Ummm… wow. Terrible decision

  • Kyle Quinlan

There is the Hoyer I expected

  • Pete Smith

another great, albeit insanely desperate play by Skrine

  • Pete Smith

Sheard blows by Loadholt, gets the sack fumble, end of half

  • Joe Mazzulo

Jabaal Sheard is getting better and better. He is also clearly a better rusher from the left side of the line.

  • Kyle Quinlan

Now imagine this game with Trent Richardson

    • Pete Smith

      I like having that pick

  • Pete Smith

Wow… Bess looking impressive back to back
