Cleveland Browns Poll: Which quarterback do you want in 2014 NFL Draft?

In light of the decisions of Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles to go ahead and declare for the 2014 NFL Draft and exactly 4 months until the the first pick is announced, it seemed like a good time to get a sense of where people are on the quarterback situation.  So, here is a chance to weigh in on it and it will be interesting to see if the numbers shift over time or if the readership of Dawg Pound Daily stays relatively the same in which way they hope the Cleveland Browns go with the quarterback situation.

I took Teddy Bridgewater out of the poll, because I thought the results would be too lopsided in his favor.  For the sake of getting a more representative total, let’s assume he is going before the Browns pick in one of the top 3 picks.  Beyond that, pick the guy you want for the team.  Don’t assume you have to trade up to get him or anything else.  You are picking a quarterback to be the team’s quarterback along with Brian Hoyer for next season.  And for those who want to roll with Hoyer as the guy, that option is there too.

  • Mark Murphy

Aaron Murray later round, let him heal while sitting behind hoyer for year 1.

  • CPT WILLIAM 1/3rd ACR

WR Watkins with first pick, 2nd Pick RB Tre Mason/Benjiman WR FL ST., 2nd Rd QB Maccaron/LSU QB; BUILD WITH PICKS WITH FUTURE QB IN 2015 IN MIND. Keep OPTION AS WELL TO SEEK MALLET; HOYER&MALLET will make a great pair for Cleveland.

    • Devan3773

You can get a great RB in the later rounds. I would prefer a RT or G with the second pick

      • CPT WILLIAM 1/3rd ACR

Devan, I would too…but, my fingers are cross getting RT/G in FA.

        • CPT WILLIAM 1/3rd ACR

Not too many RT/G in draft, except maybe David Yankey Stanford.

    • Cory Miller

      Mallet sucks just quit

      • CPT WILLIAM 1/3rd ACR

Brussels sprouts sucks. I saw Mallet play at Williams-Brice stadium. Were he easily took apart a very good Steve Spurrier Defense. For me to take you seriously, how about you quickly graduate from Sesame Street, and put some intelligence behind your comments.

        • Cory Miller

Lots of quarterbacks can pick apart a defense in college, see Brandon Weeden, Ryan Leaf, Tim Tebow, etc. It doesn’t mean they will do anything in the pros. If Mallet was sooo good why are we the only team linked to trading for him? The only reason we are even mentioned is because of the worthless GM Lombardi we have that has his nose so far up Belichek’s butt it’s not even funny. Let alone no RB is worthy of a 1st rd. pick this year and Mettenberger and McCarron will probably be available in the 3rd. How about you go back to sesame street and learn something about evaluating talent and how drafts go in the NFL now.

          • CPT WILLIAM 1/3rd ACR

Thank you. Thats better than “You Suck” & “Just Quit” attitude. Yes, My RB T. Mason is too high. But, I believe he’s gooing to be a good RB, and have a great career. Your not evaluating talent. Your just stating the obvious of talent that has failed. I saw Mallet play, way before Lombardi was even in the picture. Obviously, Your issues are with him. Their isn’t a P. Manning, a T. Brady (who had to grow to be a H.O.F.) Or a Luck, at QB in the 2014 Draft. Looking at this year QB Class, Maccarron has the QB Smarts, Mettenbberger a good pocket passer, and Menziel mobility, but will have durability issues. If you want to discuss GM’s and how they failed, or even better how they evaluate talent, I’m all for it. Your good at Criticising, We Done, or why were the only one who wants Mallet, and your Lombardi issues.Lambardi found the Harbaugh coaches, who drafted Weeden? Banner drafted Andy Reid…etc. Looking for a QBThat fits your system… I’m sure your criticize trading RB T-Rich? As a coach, Husband, Friend, or Brother… Lets discuss how to fix it…who would be good at QB, GM, WR OL, RB…etc. instead of “he sucks, just quit” be constructive, not destructive. Be relevant. With more practice, I’m sure you can get better. Keep reading your Dr Seuss books, keep up the good work.

Give hoyer some help on the line and a legit rb. That will help out big time. Clowney in 1st rd.

    • Pridenpoise

      No Clowney 4 U.

      • Connor Foutras

Well Houston will take teddy Probs.
Good chance rams take Matthews to help Bradford.
And Jax will probably take a QB. Clowney could be there at 4.

        • Nc browns fan

That would be a steal. Give hoyer another look. No Johnny football. Clowney 1st pick off lineman 2nd pick

        • Pridenpoise

I can almost guarantee he will be there, unless someone trades up, but do you honestly think the browns our going to pass up a QB in the first round, especially when their defence is pretty good as is stands, no Cleveland is taking a QB.

  • Antione Hughey

With the first pick in the draft the Browns should take Sammy Watkins WR , second pick A.J. Maccaron QB, third pick Carlos Hyde RB then defense after that a nasty LB ,CB,S

    • Ken Hoag

After those picks, that draft, Banner and Lombardi will be proud to announce they won 6 games and are making progress. The best the Browns can do!

      • Nc browns fan

Yep you are right. Banner and lombardi’s heads will be the size of an elephant.

  • Josh Hart

Hoyer needs to start this year if he’s healthy. I like to see #1 Bortles, #2 Manziel, and #3 Carr as the future in Cleveland.

    • CPT WILLIAM 1/3rd ACR

Car? His brother tried the NFL…and those who know them….said, the younger brother was a late bloomer. And the way he lost his bowl game…let’s just say he’s a Bust, ready to happen.

      • Josh Hart

First, they’re brothers, not the same person. It has no bearing on one’s success. Peyton manning has a brother too, and last I checked he’s won 2 superbowls. Derek has put together 4 good seasons in college. He didn’t look great in the bowl ge against USC, but 1 game doesn’t define a player. I’d be fine if the Browns picked him up with anything other than their first pick.

Pass on one in the first if teddys gone and pick up boyd or garrapollo later on

  • Patrick Victor

Jesus Christ people… A young team with soon to be new leadership… The LAST thing we need is an immature little rich boy at QB. I am astounded and appalled at how many people actually want Manziel in Cleveland! This is not the environment in which a young quarterback with character concerns flourishes! If we draft him, there is less than zero chance he will succeed and in two years we will be releasing him and starting over with a new head coach…

  • Connor Foutras

Draft best talent with first pick which I think is Watkins. Take a CB with second pick to help Haden out. Need a ILB im in love with Shayne Skov in 2nd round. Take a QB in 3rd round. McCarron, Mettenberg, Murray will all be there.
Wouldnt mind seeing a trade up with our additional 3rd and 4th round picks

  • Matt

I would like to hear the explanation on why people think Manziel would be a good qb, he can throw and run, by I think just by sheer size he won’t last, he’ll end up hurt every year like michael vick, I like bortles just by his size, I think Carr would be a bust because he got picked apart during the bowl game, but definitely think the browns should draft watkins, and go for maybe Mettenberger or A.J McCaron with the second first round pick or use it to trade it up.

  • Ken Hoag

Blake Bortles… sorry the name just sounds like one you see on the list of QB’s that never quite made it in the NFL… Johnny Manziel, Johnny Football can lead the big time trip to the SuperBowl. Hey, the OL might have to protect him like Brees or Wilson… or maybe he makes good reads, quick decisions and the ball will get out of his hands fast… We had lumpy, I mean Weeden… didn’t do much did he? Not saying Bortles wouldn’t be good but we don’t need good, we need SuperBowl, a big game QB.

  • Ken Hoag

PS, the Browns won’t take Manziel. I am 100% sure. Too much on the line for Lombardi and Banner. They just want to win more than 6 games to show “they are making progress” What a bunch of BS…
