The President of the Cleveland Browns  Alec Scheiner, went on CBS Radio’s Cleveland affiliate 92.3 The Fan’s Bull and Fox show (Adam “the Bull” and Dustin Fox) and talked about the Browns off-season. Some of the conversation focused on the Browns’ decision to keep ticket prices the same for the upcoming season, the recent changes made in the front office, and if his role with the Browns will change moving forward. The most interesting portion of the interview focused on the possible changes to the Browns’ uniforms in the near future.

After talking to Scheiner about player contracts and his involvement in the process, Adam changed the conversation to the unveiling of the new uniforms by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Adam noted that the Bucs’ new uniforms were generally hated by the fans, but that he liked the new cutting edge look. Adam asked Scheiner “Could you ever see the Browns’ going down that road of cutting edge uniforms?”  Scheiner responded “This is what I think we will do, we will have cutting edge uniforms that link back to our history”. He further said “I’m really excited about our direction, we have been working with the NFL and Nike for almost a year”. Scheiner further elaborated “I would be really surprised if the fans don’t love our ‘new look uniforms’ and I think we’re headed down a really cool path”.  Dustin followed up that by asking Scheiner  “So next year at this time will we have those unveiled?” He responded “I don’t know exactly when we will have those Dustin, but it will be sometime before the draft”.

The entire process of the new uniforms has been cloaked in secrecy, with some in the media speculating that when the process got pushed back from being unveiled during 2014 off-season to the 2015 off-season it would eventually be shelved for the long-term. I for one love and respect the history of the Browns’, but just like the players I wouldn’t mind seeing an updated look. Browns’ owner Jimmy Haslam has already reassured the fans by giving his word that the Browns’ helmet would remain the same, so a uniform change wouldn’t hurt. However, I will say that I hope the Browns’ never resurrect the all orange jersey from the 2002 season, it looks to much like the Bucs’ iconic ‘Creamsicle’ throwbacks.

When the news broke in early 2013 that the Browns’ were considering an updated look ESPN’s Uni Watch initiated a readers redesign, which had many interesting responses. The Cleveland Plain Dealer also had a similar article with fan submitted redesigns.
