Schefter: Justin Gilbert to be Inactive; Late Due to Manziel Party

Another shoe is about to drop from the Johnny Manziel party. We covered it already this morning (New Window) but now Adam Schefter is throwing another log on the fire reporting that Justin Gilbert could be Inactive today for the Cleveland Browns due to being late Saturday after Manziel’s party:

The fall out from Manziel’s party now includes himself, Josh Gordon and Justin Gilbert. I would not be shocked if the NFL shows up soon to test the Browns “randomly,” if they can.

Gilbert, as discussed in this morning’s piece, has raised concerns from within the Browns organization about his maturity. That he was at Manziel’s party is not a surprise, the two rookies spent a lot of time together this season. That he was late Saturday, after making tons of noise about learning from his mistakes, wanting to move on and expecting big things from himself next year is a problem.

For Browns fans who have been all over the team for passing on Sammy Watkins to trade down, then up, to get Gilbert this adds fuel to the fire. [Looking your way Ric :)]

Unlike Manziel and Josh Gordon, who both have already been disciplined, either officially or via reports, Gilbert hasn’t had a lot of character concerns in his reports. His teammates called him out last week, a very unique move by both Donte Whitner and Karlos Dansby, so his behavior must be bad.

Now the Browns will deal with the upcoming off-season with a ton of turmoil. Their top pick is likely Inactive for the last game, the QB of the future held a party that got him and said top pick in trouble and the most talented offensive weapon is suspended for the last game.

The most optimistic Browns fans thought they had their QB for long term, top flight WR and #2 corner all in house when the season started. The pessimist unfortunately seems like they are bound to be right, at least at this moment. The Browns may not have a QB of the future, could cut their best playmaker and could be on the look out for more corner help.

Thankfully the Browns hit well on players after the first round but as of today based on maturity and not on talent, the first round looks completely awful.

What do you think about this new news about Justin Gilbert? How much blame do you throw at Johnny Manziel?
