NFL Mock Draft: FanSided NFL Mocks Go Lines For Browns

The Cleveland Browns are in a place to have a ton of power in the upcoming NFL Draft. That makes NFL Mock Draft posts very interesting to us. Based on some early reports out of the Senior Bowl practices the quarterbacks, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston in particular, could not be as high on Front Office boards as they are in some NFL Mock Drafts. If the QBs start to fall it could put the Browns in a position to either grab one of them, unlikely to be Winston, or trade down to someone who really wants one.

With two picks, and them close to each other, the Browns have the flexibility to be picky. What if Mariota is on the board and the Eagles call from #20 wanting him. The Browns could decide to choose him for themselves, trade with the Eagles or play chicken with Chip Kelly and select Mariota while still negotiating all the way down till the 20th pick held by the Eagles.

Today we take a look at the NFL Mock Draft put out by our network. NFL Mocks looks at all things NFL in relation to the draft. There Mock Draft is an interesting one that has the Browns upgrading both sides of their line:

"12. Cleveland BrownsBRANDON SCHERFFOffensive Tackle, IowaThe Browns nailed in this past year by drafting Joel Bitonio in the second round, and their offensive line rebuild is nearly complete. Scherff is a strong, athletic player who can play either tackle or guart and be an immediate starter for Cleveland."

An interesting first pick for the Browns as they solidify maybe the last hole on their offensive line. While Mitchell Schwartz has been fine, most fans want to see an upgrade. Michael Bowie, who we profiled here in our Man of Mystery series, could fill that role or play the right guard spot.

Scherff would be an immediate starter for the Browns on the offensive line for sure but they have Browns passing on defenders Vic Beasley and Eddie Goldman along with receivers DeVante Parker and Kevin White. All 4 of those players would be highly intriguing for the Browns. The player selected at pick #11, Amari Cooper, might have been a slam dunk selection if the Minnesota Vikings hadn’t taken him. In this Mock Mariota “only” falls to #6 with Winston going #1 overall.

"19. Cleveland Browns (via Buffalo Bills)DANNY SHELTONDefensive Tackle, WashingtonThe Browns were terrible at stopping the run in 2014, so getting a stud like Danny Shelton on the defensive interior is phenomenal for them at this point, especially having already bolstered the offensive line. Shelton was part of one of the best defensive front sevens in the nation this past year."

Here is where it is important to note when NFL Mock Drafts are written. This one was written before Danny Shelton dominated the Senior Bowl, as we expected. At this point it would likely take an injury to keep Shelton from being drafted any lower than about 15th and it is possible that he isn’t around when the Browns pick at #12. Thankfully some other nose tackles, Malcom Brown to name one, can also fill the Browns need in the middle. Shelton is a favorite of ours and getting him and a starting right tackle would be great.

NFL Mocks has defenders Alvin Dupree (Bud), Nate Orchard, Arik Armstead, Bernadrick McKinney and Brown going at the end of the first. They also have a number of offensive tackles and wide receivers that could interest the Browns as well. One surprise pick was the Denver Broncos selecting Brett Hundley #28th overall. Anything is possible but we see Hundley as a huge project that could need to sit for up to 2 seasons before he is ready.

What do you think of their NFL Mock Draft? Would Shelton and an offensive tackle satisfy you in the first round?
