facebooktwitterreddit

Spanning the virtual globe to bring you the best of Cleveland sports – from the Browns to the Indians and Cavs – these are your Daily Dawg Tags for Wednesday, July 29.

Cleveland Browns:

No hanging chads – Title in a landslide:

"Just like when I served as the late Arnold Pinkney’s press secretary during his unsuccessful Cleveland mayoral run in 1975, maybe I’m still waiting for the votes from late reporting East Side precincts – because there’s no other plausible explanation for the early returns from Dawg Pound Daily’s latest poll."

Why Johnny Manziel should start Week 1:

"Seeing tweets, comments and talking to fans, it’s almost as though they want nothing to do with Johnny Manziel. He was suppose to save football in Cleveland, and his immaturity got in the way.Given all of that, I’d still start him week one."

Cleveland Browns training camp primer:

"The Cleveland Browns open training camp this week with veteran players reporting on Wednesday to take a physical, meet with coaches and participate in a conditioning test. Find out everything you need to know about training camp."

Cleveland Browns receiving corps truly underrated (NFL Spin Zone):

"Sure, the quarterback situation in Cleveland is tenuously in the hands of 36-year-old Josh McCown, but what isn’t tenuous for the Browns is their renewed and revived receiving corps consisting of Dwayne Bowe, Brian Hartline, Andrew Hawkins, Travis Benjamin and Taylor Gabriel, all of whom can definitely light up the scoreboard."

How Ray Farmer, Mike Pettine completely transformed the roster (clevelandbrowns.com):

"When the Mike Pettine-Ray Farmer era began Feb. 11, 2014, 67 of the players who will enter Cleveland Browns training camp Thursday weren’t on the roster.Let that number sink in. 67 new players. Only 22 remain from the team that met the Steelers in Week 17 of the 2013 season."

Cleveland Browns 53-man roster projection (Dawgs By Nature):

"The Cleveland Browns will hold their first full-squad session of training camp on Thursday, and that means it is time to unveil the first 53-man roster projection of the season. This pre-training camp edition is a current perception for how things will go, but it could change drastically over the next couple of weeks based on reports from training camp and performances in the preseason games."

NFL News:

NFL upholds Tom Brady’s suspension (NFL.com):

"NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has upheld Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on integrity of the game, the league announced Tuesday."

Is Jimmy Garoppolo ready to replace Tom Brady? (Musket Fire):

"The New England Patriots’ training camp officially starts today and Tom Brady will not be the starting quarterback for the Pats when the regular season opens on Sept. 10."

Dontari Poe out for training camp with back injury (Arrowhead Addict):

"The Kansas City Chiefs have a major problem on their hands already. Nose tackle Dontari Poe is going to miss all of training camp and likely some games after suffering a herniated disc during the offseason program. Poe had the surgery on July 15 and now begins his rehab, according to multiple reports."

Cleveland Sports:

Cleveland Indians: Are there really any untouchables? (Factory of Sadness):

"Whether or not the Cleveland Indians make a trade(s) will be known by Friday afternoon. Given that the Tribe has lost five straight games and are in last place, being 15 games back in their division does not help their situation. Should the Tribe really make a trade? Are there really any untouchables on Cleveland’s roster?"

Do the Cavaliers have any moves left to make? (King James Gospel):

"The Cleveland Cavaliers off-season has been a fun one, just like their Regular Season. The Cavs brought back Kevin Love, Iman Shumpert, James Jones and Matthew Dellavedova while bringing in Richard Jefferson and Mo Williams. Quite a group of players that could have left or signed elsewhere instead of coming to Cleveland. Tristan Thompson is almost assuredly returning with a huge contract at some point. J.R. Smith could return as well giving the Cavs quite a nice depth chart. For the sake of this article we will assume Tristan’s return but JR Swish’s. Do the Cavs have any moves left to make this off-season?"

Where do the Cleveland Indians go from here? (Wahoo’s on First):

"It’s not the first time that Cleveland Indians fans have dealt with disappointment. The Tribe has had their fair share of bad seasons. But this one was supposed to be different. After a brief postseason appearance in 2013, and a near miss last season – the bar was set high."

Indians front office and clubhouse spinning two different messages (Did the Tribe Win Last Night?):

"It’s a long season, but the message sure seems to have changed in just 48 hours in regards to the Cleveland Indians."
