The Cleveland Browns are short of wide receivers, leading the team to reportedly be ready to resign Terrelle Pryor.

As if the 2015 NFL season wasn’t already enough of a circus, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly planning to resign former quarterback and wide receiver wannabe Terrelle Pryor.

The Browns are shorthanded at wide receiver as Andrew Hawkins and Taylor Gabriel remain in the NFL-mandated concussion protocol. The team is so desperate for help that Marlon Moore saw time at wide receiver against the Baltimore Ravens. (To his credit Moore did catch a touchdown pass.)

There is also the fun possibility that, with Josh McCown looking more and more like the Blues Mobile as the injuries pile up, that Pryor could be in line to be the Browns’ third quarterback, which would all but guarantee he will somehow be needed to start the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Just what the team needs.

Pryor spent training camp with the Browns, accomplishing next to nothing because of a hamstring injury. While he made the final roster, for reasons that are still not clear, he was let go at the first opportunity.

Since being released Pryor has had tryouts with numerous teams, but none have been foolish enough to sign him. That list includes the New England Patriots, who are so short at wide receiver that they may need to call Randy Vataha out of retirement, and the Seattle Seahawks, who made the Super Bowl the past two seasons, which would indicate that they know a thing or two about acquiring good players.

Much like the forward pass, there are three scenarios for how this will play out and two of them are not good.

Pryor actually gets on the field and is a productive member of the offense

There is almost a zero percent chance that happens, though. Teams that are much smarter than the Browns – see the Patriots and Seahawks – along with every other NFL team have had a chance to sign Pryor and passed. But somehow the Browns, who we’ve been told since the start of the season are the most incompetent franchise in the history of professional sports, have somehow lucked into a hidden gem that everyone else has missed.

Pryor remains with the team but is inactive on game day

Since he is the same player as the one the Browns released back in September, there is no reason to believe that Pryor can help the Browns now. This is reconfirmed in practice, head coach Mike Pettine adds Pryor to the inactive list each week, and the Ohio State fanboys blow up Browns Twitter in outrage.

Pryor is released once Hawkins or Gabriel is cleared to play

The most likely scenario as the Browns are bringing in Pryor to be a practice body and short-term insurance until the actual wide receivers on the team are healthy enough to play. Once that happens, general manager Ray Farmer releases Pryor, and the Ohio State fanboys blow up Browns Twitter in outrage.

If this was any other team in any other year, adding the 53rd man to a 53-man roster would be only a short sentence in agate type in the daily transactions listing.

But this is the Browns and 2015, so it is sure to be much, much more.
