Johnny Manziel should not be covered by Cleveland media

Johnny Manziel continues to make himself look bad and his actions continued to be covered by local Cleveland media.

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has found a way to stay relevant, even though it is for all the wrong reasons.

After assaulting his ex-girlfriend, destroying a rental house during one weekend and drinking pretty much anywhere at any time, Manziel is back in the news.

This time it is because his friends are concerned he may not make it on this planet much longer if his drug and alcohol habits continue.

This news is relevant in the national scene because of who Manziel is, but it does not seem like something that should concern Browns fans, except from a moral stance of not wanting to see a former player end up at rock bottom.

The team gave Manziel countless chances and he continued to make the organization look foolish for falling for his lies each time. The coaching staff kept trying to make him the starter in 2015, but he messed that up each time the opportunity presented itself.

His time in Cleveland ended earlier this year, yet his name still appears in local publications as if he never left.

He even had an article written about him, also on cleveland.com, for attending a Justin Bieber concert in Cleveland. The article uses the concert as a reason to talk about Manziel and his other assorted problems, but this in not Browns-related news.

And yes, I realize I am bringing his name up while saying he shouldn’t be talked about, but this is a look at the media rather than me trying to chastise Manziel or report on one of his latest antics.

It can be tough to just ignore what a former player is doing, especially when his name brings up so many emotions, but not only is Manziel done in Cleveland, he may never play in the NFL again.

His situation is getting so dire, as described by his friends, that his life is in danger. The best thing to do at this point would be to stop treating him like a celebrity, and let him go on doing what he is doing if that is his choice.

If he does not want to change and fix his life, that is a choice that does not concern anyone in Cleveland.

His name will always be associated with being a failed talent, but the Browns appear to be in a great situation for the first time in a long time. There is no need to bring down spirits with a focus on a toxic player from the past.
