Daily Dawg Tags: The infernal quarterback debate

When it comes to the Cleveland Browns, the talk is always about the quarterbacks, especially in the coming months.

The Cleveland Browns and quarterbacks.

Quarterbacks and the Cleveland Browns.

You can’t talk about one without talking about the other.

Should the Browns draft a quarterback this year? Should they trade for one? Or should they just keep the status quo and go into the 2017 season with Robert Griffin III and Cody Kessler – a plan that would come as close to anything in ensuring that the Browns will be picking at the top of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The one thing to remember is that as Browns fans we are all in this together. No matter what the Browns do, right or wrong, we will spend as long as it takes convincing ourselves that this time they finally got it right.

As the Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi said, “We cling to our own point of view, as though everything depended on it. Yet our opinions have no permanence; like autumn and winter, they gradually pass away.”

The next few months could be long ones, but if we all stick together we will get through it in a civil manner.

Cleveland Browns news:

Browns are not trading a first-round pick for Jimmy Garoppolo

There are two parts to any discussion about Jimmy Garoppolo as the future quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. The first centers around the idea of whether or not he is worth trading for in the first place.  That leads to the second, and just as important, question of how much should the Browns be willing to give up for Garoppolo.

Just relax when it comes to the Myles Garrett video

A majority of Cleveland Browns fans seemed to be happy with the idea of the take selecting Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft. This happiness changed for some when a video was released of Garrett saying he would like the Dallas Cowboys to trade up and select him.

Brady vs. Belichick: Who’s to blame for Patriots success? (FiveThirtyEight)

Even before they won their fifth Super Bowl together, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady were the twin pillars of the greatest dynasty in NFL history. Since Brady took over as a starter, the New England Patriots have had 16 straight winning seasons — including seven straight seasons with 12 or more wins — in an era where the salary cap has made staying on top nearly impossible. Belichick is a three-time AP coach of the year, and Brady is a two-time MVP. Both have secured their legacies, both are easily in the GOAT discussion for their respective roles. But they can’t really both be the greatest, right?

Predicting the biggest spenders of the 2017 NFL offseason (Bleacher Report)

With free agency approaching, it’s time to start thinking of players as assets. Not only are they talent, but they are contracts and/or draft picks. With that in mind, we looked through the NFL’s landscape to find which teams would be most likely to have an agressive offseason in 2017. Some teams have a quantifiable advantage, as they have mountains of money available to spend this offseason. One even has more cap room right now than a franchise is slated to spend on their current roster in 2017.

Football and politics (The New Yorker)

On a snowy Sunday afternoon in December, 1973, I went to visit two Chilean graduate students at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. While we spoke, their attention kept drifting to an unexpected distraction: a small black-and-white TV tuned to the N.F.L. game between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys. The grad students were fervently rooting for Dallas. When I asked why, tt was simply that Dallas was the available cudgel to whack Washington, the team avidly embraced by Richard Nixon.
