Brock Osweiler remains a member of the Cleveland Browns, which may mean the team intends to keep him for the duration of the 2017 season.

The Cleveland Browns seem to be entirely focused on April’s NFL Draft, but that doesn’t answer fans’ questions about what is going to be done with Brock Osweiler.

When he was surprisingly acquired in a trade with the Houston Texans, we were all told the Browns had no intention of keeping him. Yet the team still owes him $16 million in 2017, so if there are no takers, it doesn’t hurt to keep him around.

Even if the team drafts a rookie quarterback, Osweiler can start the season and let the rookie learn the NFL game before being thrown onto the field right away. As Browns fans know, that hasn’t worked out well in the past.

Since the team has to pay him all that money, having his starting experience on the roster, even if only for a year, would help the team more than if he was released. No one believes he is the team’s quarterback of the future, but it doesn’t mean he is a horrible option in the present.

There is still plenty of time for the team to trade or release Osweiler, so it is possible he is not an option for the Browns in 2017. But as of right now, his presence on the team shouldn’t be viewed as a problem. Let’s take a look at this and more in today’s edition of the Daily Dawg Tags.
