Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson made it clear the team won’t trade the No. 1 overall pick for a quarterback, which is great news for fans.

Trading down in the first round of the NFL Draft is something Cleveland Browns fans have gotten used to in the recent past. But trading out of the No. 1 pick? That is something even Browns fans may not tolerate.

Some fans may have been concerned that the team was considering trading out of the top pick, but that will not be the case. Well, they won’t do it for a quarterback.

The above tweet from ESPN’s Pat McManamon includes his article in which Hue Jackson directly states the team won’t trade the top pick for a quarterback, yet it doesn’t rule out the possibility of trading out for another offer.

A lucrative offer from another team could be something to consider, but it is good news that the team is not considering offering that No. 1 pick for a quarterback. Because it is not like such a trade would net Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady. It would bring someone like Jimmy Garoppolo to town, who may be talented but it nowhere near being worth the No. 1 overall pick.

This news keeps Myles Garrett as the favorite to come to the Browns in April’s NFL Draft, while the No. 12 pick is where the Browns can get creative. That pick can be offered up in trades, or the team can even use it on a rookie quarterback.

Browns fans always get caught up in the quarterback position because of the consistent turnover at the position, yet it is possible the team focuses on the defense in this draft and lets Cody Kessler or Brock Osweiler run the offense in 2017.

And while some fans may get frustrated with the lack of answers coming from Jackson and the front office, they too may be weighing several players to bring to town. The group was given free rein to rebuild this team, so they are not going to rush into a decision months before the season begins.

Next: Too early to assume Osweiler won't be released

Trading the No. 1 pick for a quarterback may have seemed crazy, but it is nice to get some assurance that it just won’t happen. Let the search continue.
