The Cleveland Browns joined the rest of the NFL in sitting out Wednesday’s NFL supplemental draft, deciding not to take one of the two available players.

Today’s NFL supplemental draft came and went without one of the two available players being selected, according to an article on NFL.com.

There were no high-profile players of a Josh Gordon or Bernie Kosar caliber available this year, and it would be hard to expect the Browns to take part in any future supplemental drafts with this current front office. Selecting a player in the event means forfeiting a pick in the following year’s NFL Draft, and this front office covets draft picks like rare treasure.

The passing of this event clears the way for the current 90-man roster to begin competing for those final 53 spots. The Browns may make a few low-profile additions between now and training camp, but don’t expect any major splashes in free agency in the next two weeks.

Fans can now begin breaking down the roster to check out some of the impending positional battles. And aside from left tackle, left guard and right guard, there is a chance for some newcomers to make names for themselves at nearly every position.

The focus is going to be on the quarterback position, but young players have chances to stand out all over the field. Just think back to a few years ago when Isaiah Crowell made a name for himself with a great preseason. Now he is the number one running back.

The beauty of football is that talent reigns supreme, and with this team still in a rebuild, Hue Jackson and the front office are focused on keeping the most talented players around.
