Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy’s Season is Likely Over

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries, Quarterback Drama | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Cleveland Browns and Colt McCoy both hoped the quarterback would be able to return to practice this week in preparation for the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he still has not been cleared to do so. Knowing that, it seems all but officially announced that backup Seneca Wallace will be making his third start of the season on Sunday. McCoy hasn’t been completely shut down in the last few weeks, as he has been running, lifting weights, attending team meetings, and just about everything else except participating in actual drills. Despite that, he has not been medically cleared to [...]

If Cleared to Practice, Should Colt McCoy Play Against the Steelers?

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries, Quarterback Drama | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy continues to recover from a concussion and could be cleared to practice this week. He has already missed games against the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens after suffering the concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 8. While it is possible that McCoy could be cleared to play this week as the Browns prepare for a rematch with the Steelers and linebacker James Harrison, who gave McCoy the concussion, the real question is, should he? The Browns are sitting at 4-11, about to face the best defense in the NFL. There’s no denying the severity [...]

Steelers LB James Harrison Thinks Browns Should Have Been Punished

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries, Quarterback Drama | COMMENTS: None Yet

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, given a one-game suspension for illegally hitting quarterback Colt McCoy on Dec. 8, thinks the Cleveland Browns should have been punished for even allowing McCoy back into the game after the hit. “If he was hurt so bad I don’t know why they let him back in . . . two plays later,” Harrison said.  “Something should be done to them, I would think.  I don’t know.  I got a game, what should they get?” While it is questionable why the Browns would put McCoy back in the game, [...]

Browns QB Seneca Wallace Likely to Make Second Start on Saturday

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries | COMMENTS: None Yet

With Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy still recovering from a concussion, fans can expect to see back-up Seneca Wallace make his second start of the season this Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. Wallace played well against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday, completing 18 of 31 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown. However, Wallace and the rest of the offense faltered late in the second half, unable to keep the offensive rhythm that it had built throughout the other three quarters of the game. Head coach Pat Shurmur says it’s still too early to rule McCoy out for Sunday – or for the [...]

Browns TE Benjamin Watson Placed on IR, Will Return in 2012

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Cleveland Browns placed Benjamin Watson on injured reserve on Friday, after the tight end suffered his third concussion of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 8. It happened on a play in the first half when Steelers safety Ryan Clark hit him on a short incompletion. Despite feeling better with no additional setbacks, the Browns decided to shut him down. “It was pretty bad,” said Watson. “It was the worst concussion I’ve had. My equilibrium was totally thrown off, and I could hardly stand up. But I never lost consciousness. Certain sounds go off in your head, and you hear everything magnified [...]

Browns QB Seneca Wallace Likely to Start Against Arizona Cardinals

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries, Quarterback Drama | COMMENTS: None Yet

With quarterback Colt McCoy unable to practice due to his concussion, it’s becoming more and more evident that Seneca Wallace will get his first start of the season on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Wallace is a capable back-up, though it’s disheartening for another Cleveland Browns season to pass with a quarterback unable to finish the full 16-game schedule. One also has to wonder about the potential media storm that could roll into Cleveland should Wallace find a way to score more points with the same offense that McCoy was working with. These quarterback discussions are the types of things the Browns [...]

Browns President Mike Holmgren Attempts to Set Record Straight

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries, Quarterback Drama | COMMENTS: None Yet

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren held a press conference on Wednesday in an attempt to shed some light on the drama surrounding quarterback Colt McCoy’s concussion. It’s safe to say that he accomplished that, clearing the air about the whole situation, but it’s also safe to say that the press conference had a tense atmosphere. Clearly, Holmgren has been bothered by the fact that many members of the media – both national and local – have taken certain liberties in writing about the Browns this season. Speculation has run rampant on a variety of issues and Holmgren has had to appear on [...]

Pat Shurmur Not at Fault in Colt McCoy Concussion Mess

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries | COMMENTS: None Yet

The 2011 Cleveland Browns have turned the creation of negative headlines into an art form, and it continues with the saga of quarterback Colt McCoy’s concussion. On Monday, head coach Pat Shurmur explained that the Browns handled McCoy’s injury properly on the sidelines, administering the correct procedures before allowing McCoy to come back into the game. However, Shurmur declined to say whether or not the standard concussion test was performed. But that doesn’t mean Browns fans should immediately blame Shurmur for allowing McCoy back onto the field. McCoy was treated properly to the best of Shurmur’s knowledge, so why should he question it? [...]

NFL Expected to Suspend Steelers LB James Harrison on Tuesday

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

While the Cleveland Browns continue to deal with the repercussions stemming from the concussion that quarterback Colt McCoy sustained last Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ James Harrison has problems of his own. The linebacker is likely facing a suspension from the league on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Naturally, Harrison believes that he did nothing wrong and doesn’t believe that he should be fined or suspended. He cites the fact that McCoy was on the run and thus should be treated like any other player. Despite that, the NFL has pointed out the explanation in the rules that states that quarterbacks are still protected [...]

The Fallout of Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy’s Concussion

AUTHOR: | IN: Browns, Injuries | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The concussion that Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy sustained on Thursday night is becoming big news, thanks in large part to the game being played on national television. The NFL has been investigating the Browns to determine whether or not the team followed the proper procedures in checking McCoy for a concussion on the sidelines. Sources have told ESPN that the Browns didn’t perform the SCAT2 concussion test (sport concussion assessment tool) on McCoy before letting him go back into the game. Additionally, the team didn’t even perform any kind of concussion test on the quarterback until the following morning. Chris Mortensen [...]
