Are You Ready for Some More Thursday Night Football?
In his State of the NFL address on Friday, commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the NFL Network will now air 13 Thursday Night Football games, starting in the second week of the season. This is an increase from the eight-game schedule that the network had been airing since its inception in 2006. The NFL also announced that, with this increase in Thursday night games, all 32 teams will have a game in primetime. Everyone knows what kind of duds can exist in primetime, so this can only be taken with mild excitement. However, if you’re a fan of a team like [...]
Nike Slowly Unveiling New-Look 2012 NFL Uniforms
Whether you like it or not, Nike is taking over the look of the uniforms in the NFL. Evidenced by what the company has done in college football, it’s almost impossible to predict what the final product will look like. To perhaps lessen the shock when the time for unveiling the full uniforms actually comes, Nike has slowly been releasing its new products, using the 2012 Pro Bowl as a showcase. So far, fans have gotten a glimpse of the new Vapor Jet gloves. Here’s a look at the Browns’ variation: Nike has also introduced the new-look cleats for all [...]
Who’s Punching a Ticket to Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday?
We’ve reached the Final Four of the NFL playoffs, and the match-ups aren’t exactly what most of us expected. The New England Patriots take on the Baltimore Ravens (which isn’t all that surprising), while the surging New York Giants look to upset the San Francisco 49ers. It should be noted that, in a season dominated by quarterbacks, two of the top-four defenses are still in the hunt (Baltimore and San Francisco). More so, quarterbacks like Joe Flacco and Alex Smith, who aren’t considered “elite,” have an opportunity to prove the pertinence of this school of thought: Solid, while not necessarily stellar, [...]
As a native to northeast Ohio, Cleveland has been my city to defend and believe in. Given the current state of our national sports teams and struggling economy, upholding the optimism has proven to be a bit difficult. Relocating to an outlying suburb of Denver, Colorado didn’t ease the burden, either. All my life, I’ve never been a football fan. The rules change, overlap and just down right don’t make sense to a newcomer. But my man friend is enthralled by the game. So being the nice and caring lady friend that I am, I allowed him to attempt to [...]
Former Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel has gotten his chance to be a head coach once again, as he agreed to a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday. After a 2-1 record as the interim head coach following the firing of Todd Haley, and with the team obviously responding to Crennel’s style, it was a no-brainer to give him the full-time gig. And while the Chiefs’ 7-9 record may look disappointing, it came in a season full of injuries to big-time players, including safety Eric Berry, quarterback Matt Cassel, running back Jamaal Charles, and tight end Tony Moeaki. [...]
There are currently two things you can count on when it comes to the Cleveland Browns: 1) They will search high and low for a new and inexplicable way to lose a game they likely should have won 2) Left tackle Joe Thomas will be selected to the Pro Bowl Thomas was selected to his fifth straight Pro Bowl on Tuesday, one for every year that he has been in the league. He has been the definition of stability at left tackle for the Browns, something that often feels overlooked until Pro Bowl selections are unveiled each year and fans remember [...]
While the Cleveland Browns continue to deal with the repercussions stemming from the concussion that quarterback Colt McCoy sustained last Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ James Harrison has problems of his own. The linebacker is likely facing a suspension from the league on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Naturally, Harrison believes that he did nothing wrong and doesn’t believe that he should be fined or suspended. He cites the fact that McCoy was on the run and thus should be treated like any other player. Despite that, the NFL has pointed out the explanation in the rules that states that quarterbacks are still protected [...]
2011 NFL Power Rankings – Week Six
1. Green Bay Packers (LW: 1; 6-0): At this point, the Packers are playing so well that the 16-0 whispers have begun. 2. New England Patriots (LW: 2; 5-1): It’s always good to know the Patriots don’t have to blow a team out to get a win. 3. Baltimore Ravens (LW: 5; 4-1): The AFC North is as competitive as ever with the Bengals’ rise, but it’s the Ravens D that will keep them at the top. 4. 2011 NFL Power Rankings: Week Three
1. Green Bay Packers (3-0; Last week – 1): There have been some huge surprises in the NFL so far this season, and many teams with big expectations have faltered early in the season. The defending Super Bowl champions, though? Not so much. 2. New England Patriots (2-1; Last week – 2): The Patriots suffered an uncharacteristic collapse in Buffalo, but does it have more to do with the Bills riding high? The Pats might have a suspect secondary, but Tom Brady and the offense keep them ranked this high. 3. New Orleans Saints (2-1; Last week – 8): It was [...]
