Numerous sources, including the Plain Dealer and NBC Sports, have reported that contract talks between kick return specialist Josh Cribbs (the very best in pro football) and the Cleveland Browns, particularly new President Mike Holmgren and new General Manager Tom Heckert (recently acquired by the Walrus from Philadelphia), are near completion.

Much progress has been made.  It seems certain that Josh will receive a brand new or substantially re-worked contract which pays him big money.

The above is a lengthier account of recent developments.

We think that professional sports franchises, including our beloved Brownies, ought to be very hesitant to write new contracts that have years remaining on them.  But, for Josh, we concede that these are exceptional circumstances, and we applaud the decision to do whatever is necessary to keep one of our best players, a Pro Bowler, and the face of the Team in Berea at the opening of training camp later in 2010.  Kudos to our new management.

Go Browns!
