Browns coaching search: Gus Malzahn unlikely to be involved in coaching search per report

According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain DealerAuburn head coach is unlikely be involved in the Cleveland Browns search for a head coach.  While people were quick and presumptuous to say that Josh McDaniels and Todd Bowles turned down the Browns because they were the Browns and it was an unattractive job, it is probably fair to say the Browns found out that Malzahn was not interested through back channels.

Undoubtedly, people will say Malzahn rejected them and it is likely true.  The reasoning is where people will be wrong on Malzahn.  If there is anything to be said about the man in his career as a coach, he has been deliberate and calculating in his movements.  Malzahn had offers to take jobs at bigger problems when he took the job at Arkansas State, but he ignored them for the Red Wolves.  Then, a year later, he ended up back at Auburn, this time as the head coach instead of the offensive coordinator.

Malzahn may end up in the NFL someday, but if he does, it will be on his terms and could depend on the location as well as their current situation.  If he rejected the Browns, it probably goes far beyond the fact that it is the Browns.
