Browns hiring ex-Bills Linebackers Coach Chuck Driesbach per Mary Kay Cabot
By Peter Smith
The Cleveland Browns are hiring Chuck Driesbach to be part of Mike Pettine’s defensive staff according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer. Dreisbach was fired earlier this month by the Buffalo Bills, but like with Jim O’Neil, the likely defensive coordinator, Dreisbach was on Pettine’s staff with the Bills and someone he brought there from the college ranks.
Dreisbach was a linebackers coach under Pettine last season, which was his first in the NFL, so that could be his role in Cleveland. His experience in college as a defensive coordinator has been all over the place. He has been the defensive coordinator at Rice, TCU, Ole Miss, Western Michigan and Cornell. Dreisbach also had a stint as the cornerbacks coach at Michigan State between his time as defensive coordinator with the Rebels and Owls, but he has spent time as an assistant with every position of the defense at one time or another in his career. He has coached in college for 36 years in all.
It is hardly surprising that Pettine would scoop up coaches he could from his staff from the Bills as he was the one who hired them there and they were able to build a top 10 defense.
