Redskins Wide Receivers Versus Browns Corners

The Redskins have the type of receivers that the Browns could be jealous of. The addition of DeSean Jackson, a speedy top level receiver could create coverage nightmares. Pierre Garcon was the team’s top receiving threat prior to the addition of Jackson. Garcon is a talented route runner who also has the speed to challenge corners deep.

After the top 2 the Redskins have free agent addition Andre Roberts from the Arizona Cardinals. Roberts was brought over as the team’s second receiver but when Jackson became available they pounced. That puts Roberts back into his role as a 3rd receiver, what he was trying to escape in Arizona. Roberts is a high level 3rd option.

More from Browns News

For the Browns their corners are where they are hoping their strength to be. Joe Haden is in the conversation as the best corner in the league. Justin Gilbert was the Browns top pick in this year’s draft and is expected to pair with Haden to give the team two stud lock down corners. Buster Skrine was having a great Training Camp before a thumb injury sidelined him for the remainder of camp. Due to injuries to Isaiah Trufant and Pierre Desir, both off season additions, coach Mike Pettine may have to use safeties to cover 3rd and 4th receivers.

Against Washington Haden and Gilbert will have their hands full. If they try get physical at the line with the smaller Jackson and Garcon and lose the Browns defense would be compromised. The Browns will attempt to get to Robert Griffin III quickly to alleviate this concern. If they are unable to Donte Whitner, Tashaun Gipson and Jordan Poyer will be pressured to not let Jackson and Garcon past them. Roberts, Jordan Reed (tight end) and the rest of the receiving core could feast with so many Browns DBs out.
