That is a ton of information to digest so this last slide will be a short one. What should the Cleveland Browns do in light of the NFL Playoffs?

Head Coach – Stay the course. Most of the coaches in the NFL Playoffs are defensive minded. Most are also with the team that gave them their first chance. Mike Pettine is both of those so stay the course.

Offense – Pick an identity and be really good at it. While the fan base wants a better passing game, if the Browns want to be a strong running team be great at it. Invest in the offensive line, a strong tight end and a quarterback who can make smart plays. Be like the Seahawks.

Defense – Invest in the Front 7, especially the defensive line. The Browns have spent money (Paul Kruger and Karlos Dansby) and high picks (Jabaal Sheard and Barkevious Mingo) on their linebacking corp but need to continue to invest in that area to build depth and talent. But before they do that investing in the defensive line, specifically a nose tackle, to help stop the run is key to getting to the NFL Playoffs.

Did you learn anything you didn’t already know? Maybe, maybe not but putting all of this information into the charts allows for a very interesting evaluation of where the Browns are compared to the NFL Playoffs.

They seem to have the right coach, they seem to have picked an identity on offense (even if it doesn’t make fans happy) and they have a huge issue with their run defense. Barely have we mentioned quarterback play because sadly it is the hardest position to fill, even if it is the most important. If Andy Dalton can get his team to the NFL Playoffs there is hope anyone can.
