Johnny Manziel intercepted by Jaquiski Tartt

The Browns are in their 2-minute offense right before halftime. The Browns have good field position on the 49ers 44-yard-line with two timeouts with 1:25 to play in the half. The down and distance is 2nd and 6 and Manziel forces a bad throw instead of living to see another down.

On the play, Manziel initially looks right to Gary Barnidge but looks him off to soon as he is just getting into his route. Barnidge runs a corner route and is left wide open. The 49ers secondary has a  miscommunication as the safety is supposed to be in covered on Barnidge. This is a blown coverage and a completion to Barnidge would result in a touchdown or big gain. However, Manziel scans the middle to left side of the field, before feeling pressure on the right side, dropping his eyes, and escaping the pocket. Right tackle Mitchell Schwartz and right guard John Greco do a good job of double teaming and eliminating the pressure. Manziel still had a clean pocket to work with but escaped to quickly.

Manziel escapes the pocket and rolls to the left sideline. Manziel is pursed heavily by the 49ers defender and is running out of room to work with near the sideline. Manziel gets seperation from the defender and throws against his body back in to the middle of the field to Brian Hartline. Hartline appears open, but Manziel doesn’t get enough on the throw as he is on the run throwing against his body. 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt is able to read Manziel’s throw and is able to jump the poor decision and make the interception.  Johnny Manziel recognized the mistake in his press conference saying, “This isn’t freaking A&M.”
