Hunter Henry would initially be the No. 2 tight end behind Gary Barnidge, the Browns’ leading receiver from 2015. It would be expected that Henry would go on to become the No. 1 tight end at some point during his rookie contract.

He would give the Browns the big target they are lacking as well as being able to play in-line. He is a very versatile player that has lined up on the line, in the slot and out wide during his college career. For head coach Hue Jackson, Henry would be a similar receiving threat to Tyler Eifert, who caught 13 touchdowns last year for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Despite Barnidge’s prowess as a pass catcher, the Browns lack a tight end that can play in-line as a blocker. As a rookie, Henry would be able to fulfill this role for the Browns whilst acclimating to the NFL. As a tight end with a complete set of skills, Henry has the ability to be an every down player for the Browns in the future.

Skills Breakdown

Versatility: One of Henry’s biggest assets is his versatility. He is a good athlete for his size, running a 4.6 40 at 250 pounds and has equally good agility. His ability to line up inside and out as a receiver will be a very useful trait as a professional. He is too big for defensive backs to cover and too agile at his size for many linebackers.

Contested catches: Henry consistently caught the ball  in contested situations. He has strong hands and uses his large frame to create separation, shielding the ball from defenders. He maintains his concentration through the catch, securing the ball whilst absorbing hits from the defense. This ability will allow him to become a reliable target for a quarterback in the NFL.

Blocking: Henry is also a skilled blocker and was called on to block often at Arkansas. He displays a solid base as a blocker and will drive defenders back in run blocking. As a pass blocker, Henry has light feet and quick hands. With his ability as a blocker, Henry is a very complete prospect as a tight end.
