Robert Griffin III

Last week against Green Bay, Griffin and many key offensive starters only played two series’, or 11 total snaps. The workload was limited in the exhibition opener for the Browns’ new starting quarterback as he got readjusted to playing in an NFL game.

Before last Friday’s action, Griffin hadn’t seen live game reps since last preseason with the Washington Redskins. However, this week Griffin should receive extended playing time in preparation for the regular season.

Playing at home for the first time Thursday, Griffin has the opportunity to put on a strong showing and feel the support from the home crowd. Griffin addressed his excitement for Thursday prior to practice Monday with the media.

“Yeah, it’s always special whenever you can play a home game,” Griffin said. “Big shout out to the Dawg Pound. We’re excited to get there and really see them and put on for them. When you can bring someone to your home, lock the gate and play football, that’s a fun experience.”

Staying healthy throughout the preseason is Griffin’s main concern, but preparing with valuable reps is vital to his success. The Browns’ offense is a work in progress and the more comfortable Robert can be as the leader of the offense is huge if the offense wants to succeed this season.

Every preseason snap Griffin can get where he practices staying in the pocket, working progressions and developing chemistry with his receivers will not only shake rust off of Griffin, but prepare him and the offense for the regular season.

The key for Griffin this week is protecting the ball and sustaining or finishing drives with scores. Griffin acknowledged this on Monday.

“It just means we as an offense and as a team have to go out and execute better,” Griffin said. “I didn’t do a good enough job of helping us put points on the board, and that’s what we want to do. That’s the name of our game. We have to go out and score points. We want to move the ball consistently, get points on the board and make sure that we’re executing the way that we know we can and what Coach has put out for us in the gameplan.”
