5.  Ryan Lindley

Though not the most flashy option, free agent Ryan Lindley is worth a look for a Cleveland offense seeking a cheap third-string quarterback. Lindley has experience, as the 27-year-old has spent seasons in Arizona and Indianapolis, starting six games total. His last season was 2015, so Lindley is not far removed from NFL action.

The former Cardinal and Colt played little in his past three seasons, but did start a playoff game for an injury-ridden Cardinals squad in 2014. A capable starter and a quarterback with a professional attitude is what the Browns should search for during these difficult circumstances, and Lindley exhibits these characteristics.

Whether or not Lindley would fit into Cleveland’s offensive scheme still remains a question, but it appears he isn’t a bad option schematically. Lindley is a pocket passer, though his ability to scramble is very limited. At the very least though, Lindley could fill in during a desperate situation for Cleveland. In the meantime though, he could sit on the bench behind McCown and Cody Kessler, and possibly assist Kessler in his development.
