One of the strangest quarterback careers in football is the bizarre career of Matt Flynn. Flynn, who won a national championship while in college with the LSU Tigers, has spent time with four NFL teams sporadically throughout his seven-year career.

Flynn is most noted for his long tenure as backup in Green Bay to Aaron Rodgers, and his 480-yard and six-touchdown performance in a start against the Detroit Lions, a single-game franchise record in both categories. Flynn then spent a season in Seattle where he was expected to be the starting quarterback at the beginning of training camp, but was ousted by rookie Russell Wilson for the position.

2013 was rocky for Flynn, as he bounced around in Oakland and Buffalo, before finding himself back in Green Bay for the 2014 season. Flynn then sat out the 2015 season, and continues to be a free agent to this day.

While Flynn’s career has not come to fruition as intended, the career backup could be a reasonable quarterback to give a phone call to during a difficult situation like this for the Browns. His experience would prove valuable, and he still likely has some physical ability to run a west coast offense if absolutely needed.
