3. Kevin Hogan

For obvious reasons, Kevin Hogan may end up being Cleveland’s choice to promote to fill a third-string quarterback role. The rookie’s name will go down in Stanford football history after breaking many of Andrew Luck’s records. He appears to have a lot of upside at the professional level, and could benefit along with Kessler from McCown’s veteran presence.

The benefits for bringing Hogan up from the practice squad are very straight forward, as he would know the system already much better than any other quarterback mentioned on this list. His experience with Cleveland would make him the ideal third-string quarterback for a temporary job.

The downside to Hogan is also very clear. His physical abilities are undoubtedly limited, as he is just 217 pounds and not very mobile. He also wouldn’t help in mentoring Kessler, though he could be mentored alongside the Browns third-round draft pick.

While Hogan may be expecting a promotion, the Browns need to explore their options and may be hoping for a more experienced quarterback to fill this void for the time being. But then again, for a temporary third-string quarterback who may not even end up playing, one would hope Cleveland wouldn’t have to overthink this.
