For a second straight week, undrafted rookie Briean Boddy-Calhoun made another big play, making the most of his opportunity. On a 3rd-and-18 situation midway through the fourth quarter, the Browns needed a stop to get the ball back. Instead of playing a soft zone coverage, defensive coordinator Ray Horton was aggressive, making sure the defense got a stop.

On the play, Boddy-Calhoun is base alignment at corner on the far right receiver. Jordan Poyer, the high safety, is cheated over to take the receiver in man coverage after the blitz.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins doesn’t pick up on Poyer cheated over and has no idea a corner blitz is coming. Boddy-Calhoun does a great job of not showing the blitz too early and times his jump perfectly with the snap. He has a long way to travel to get to the quarterback from his outside corner position. He shows good speed and athleticism to get to Cousins in time before he throws and record the sack.

It was a great play call and design by Ray Horton but the rookie corner executed the corner blitz to perfection to make another big play this week.
