Cleveland Browns 2017 NFL Draft Profile: Pat Elflein
By Joel W. Cade
The Browns need a candidate for a long-term solution at center. Experts are saying this draft is one of the worst offensive line classes in years. This could result in two things. First, teams in need of offensive line could overdraft the position. Second, with the massive amount of talent on defense, offensive linemen slide into day three.
Austin Reiter played well in his only game at center. He showed the ability to call protections and adjust on the fly. He could be a long-term developmental option for the Browns at center. But he is coming off injury and has one game under his belt.
Anthony Fabiano played decently at center. His strength is his high level of athleticism. He still needs to learn the center position. John Greco is a temporary solution. Cam Erving is not a viable option at center.
Coming out of college, offensive linemen are generally one to two-year projects. It is a big transition from how the game is played at college to the professional level. If the Browns take Elflein now, it will still be one to two years before he is ready to start.

If Elflein falls into day three, the Browns should pounce on him. The Browns should also consider trading back into the late third round if he is available.
