Gareon Conley looks like a definite first-round pick in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft. The Browns hold the No. 1 and No. 12 overall selections. If Cleveland does indeed stand pat and keeps both picks, Conley is a realistic option at No. 12, with Myles Garrett going No. 1.

Conley would instantly add depth to the secondary and could play opposite of Haden allowing Taylor to play the slot, where he plays best. Gareon is not a finished product, but not many cornerbacks coming from college are. He is close and that is more than enough to warrant a mid-first-round pick.

From a fans standpoint, if the Browns bypass a quarterback in favor of Conley it may be a disappointment. The question is if there is a QB in this draft class that is of better value?

There is no QB in this draft ready to step in and contribute immediately the way Conley could. Being an Ohio State product may quell some fans reaction to the selection though.

Another proponent to the great QB debate of 2017 is owner Jimmy Haslam reportedly wants a QB. However, the Browns regime has proved that it will do what is best for the organization, not cave to fans or owners desire. If players like Conley will help to put a quality team on the field more quickly, then this front office will do what they feel is right.

Gareon Conley, while not a household name to most fans would be an excellent choice for Cleveland and would help improve their biggest area of need, the defense.
