Looking for reasons to believe in John Dorsey
By Thomas Moore
Great stuff from Matt!
While we feel better after hearing what Matt had to say, we’re still not totally sold on Dorsey, for a couple of reasons:
- Matt’s point about a new general manager not getting his first draft right is a major red flag. That simply cannot happen given the draft assets the Browns possess. If Dorsey manages to screw up, or have just an average draft, with the Browns holding five picks in the first two rounds it will be a disaster.
- The same goes for the salary cap. Someone needs to keep Dorsey in check when it comes to handing out bags of cash to players, especially when it comes to going to deep into free agency in an attempt to placate Jackson and “win now.”
- He seems to put a heavy emphasis on “his players,” which could lead to another major roster turnover, which is not something the Browns need to be looking to do. There is a foundation in place, even if some people refuse to accept that fact, and Dorsey needs to build on that rather than destroy it.
Some of our fear, maybe even a large portion of it, has more to do with Haslam and Dorsey, as there is simply no evidence to suggest that Haslam has any idea what he is doing. Haslam has systematically torn away any level of trust with Browns fans, and until the team starts to win there is no reason to believe his latest move is the right one.

For better or worse, we will start to learn what Dorsey can do for the Browns in the upcoming months. We’ve seen more than our share of worse from the Browns over the years, maybe this time they will finally give the fans a better tomorrow.
