Another Senior Bowl standout, Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen is starting to make his way up draft boards nationwide. Once cast aside by many, Allen’s strong Senior Bowl performance has revitalized the opinions of many an analyst.

Don’t get it twisted, there is not much to look at when considering Allen’s statistics. For his college career, Allen only has one 3,000-yard passing season (and only 5,066 total career passing yards). However, NFL scouts are absolutely enamored with his skill set.

Allen is the perfect example of hope reigning eternal in the National Football League. Sure, Allen was not particularly impressive during his last year at college. His best game was a 328-yard, two-touchdown effort against the formidable competition that is … Gardner-Webb.

But his game proves that stats and numbers aren’t everything. According to ESPN draft analyst  Mel Kiper Jr. and Allen himself, “stats are for losers.”

Allen, to keep it short, has incredible passing ability. He made throws in college that most NFL quarterbacks could never even think about making in their wildest dreams. But his inconsistencies have damned him to No. 3 on this list.

Allen’s all-too-often mental lapses and quite honestly awful decision-making keep him from getting any higher on this list. Maybe he wows teams at the Scouting Combine in March, but for now, he stays as the third best.

Allen is, and maybe always will be, “what could be,” rather than “what is.” He is a prospect that could blossom into something absolutely beautiful as he has the most potential out of any quarterback in this class.

But at this point, can Browns fans really trust head coach Hue Jackson to unlock that potential?
