Cleveland Browns: 7-Round Mock Draft brings a new quarterback
By Randy Gurzi
Round 2 (via Houston): Sony Michel, RB, Georgia
After adding a starting quarterback, a dynamic defensive back and a strong offensive tackle, the Cleveland Browns are back on the clock in the second round. This time they again have an early pick in the round thanks to the Houston Texans, but this pick was earned in an untraditional way.
After Brock Osweiler flamed out as the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans, they shipped his salary and a second-round pick to the Browns. It was an NBA-style salary dump where the Browns were afforded a second-round pick in order to eat $16 million of salary. Now they look even better by picking up a playmaker with this selection as well.
Sony Michel was looking to be a mid-round pick after spending his career at Georgia backing up Nick Chubb. Then the Bulldogs made the College Football Playoffs and Michel went off. Against Oklahoma he had three touchdowns on the ground and one through the air.
He finished with 181 yards rushing and 41 receiving. His legend grew to a new high as he was also the guy to run in the game-winning touchdown in the second overtime for the Dawgs. He would be an upgrade over Isaiah Crowell, who is currently a free agent. Michel also wouldn’t cause issues about splitting time with Duke Johnson as he’s used to doing so with Chubb and it never caused any issues.
