Cleveland Browns: Top 5 cornerback targets in the 2018 NFL Draft
2. Isaiah Oliver, Colorado
Coming out of Colorado University, the somewhat mysterious Isaiah Oliver comes in at number two. Oliver has garnered media attention due to his amazing skill set for a cornerback, but the league might not be quite as high on him. Let’s dive in.
So, why has the NFL not caught on to Oliver yet? Perhaps NFLDraftDiamonds.com says it best.
"“His awareness and ability to get to turn his head around helps him keep the ball out of the receiver’s hands. However, this is a part of his game that has some inconsistency.”"
So, while Oliver has a tremendous skill set and great size for a cornerback at 6-foot-1, he does not make great use of it all the time. He will need some coaching up and polishing from a defensive coordinator.

Additionally, Oliver does not play quite as well in zone coverage as he does when going man-on-man. His game relies a bit on his size, even though he has plenty of speed as well. In a word, Oliver’s flaws lie in his discipline (or rather, lack thereof).
With his skills, it is likely that Oliver could test off the charts at the NFL Scouting Combine. When all is said and done, he could be the second-best cornerback in the class when it comes to athleticism and skill.
Under an NFL coach like Cleveland defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, Oliver could refine his game. Currently, he is the more raw of the top two cornerback options in the draft. At his full potential, he could turn into one of the best at the next level.
