Cleveland Browns: 7-Round mock if they sign a QB
By Randy Gurzi
Round 2: Taven Bryan, DT, Florida
After hitting on a couple defensive backs with their past two choices, the Browns are back on the clock early in the second round. This is another pick they obtained thanks to dealing with the Houston Texans. Their second pick in the opening round came thanks to the trade that sent Deshaun Watson to the Texans, but this one was thanks to the famous salary dump.
That was when the Texans gave the Browns a second-round selection to take on quarterback Brock Osweiler’s massive salary. The lengthy gun slinger didn’t survive past the preseason, but the guy they get here will make a much bigger impact if they are patient with his progression.
In this mock, Cleveland chooses Taven Bryan, the defensive tackle from Florida. While Larry Ogunjobi showed some great flashes as a rookie, a talent like Bryan is hard to pass on. He was a breakout player in 2017 when he had 37 tackles with four sacks.
He didn’t start much before that season, which means he will need plenty of time to develop. Fortunately for the Browns, defensive line isn’t one of their weak spots so they can afford to get someone who isn’t ready to be a full-time starter just yet at this point.
